[quote:post_uid0="dominicankid098"]I am the definition of PWN.

I have proved it many times kicking all your asses in sfo many times. Damn I am rusty, haven't played in 4 weeks. And don't plan to anytime soon.

I'ts nice to know that. But we're looking for where the word "pwn" or "own" came from.

We know what it means. Now we need to know "if anyone knows" where it was first used.

Originally dates back to the days of WarCraft, when a map designer mispelled "Own" as "Pwn". What was originally supose to be "player has been owned." was "player has been pwned".

Pwn eventually grew from there and is now used throughout the online world, especially in online games.

that's funny, so it was mispelled. I had a feeling it was. Well, the long-awaited answer has been found.

only you people will guess these correct

Warmor 04-29-2005 06:37 PM

Not sure if the Warcraft statment is fully correct, but it is just a misspelled word, like where almost all of this "leet" speak comes from.

It's hard to get an actually pinpoint on these things, but a strategy or FPS is an ideal choice.

People say they "owned" you in a match. Misspelled to "pwned". Might have happend in several games and then people kept doing it. Just like "n00b", "j00", "teh", "1337", and so forth. It starts by a type or someone trying to be "cute", and goes from there.
