[quote:post_uid0="SSJKarma"]Might be because TMYAPP only knows SHOCKWAVE, have you ever thought of that dude ?

as simple as it might be for you, its not as easy and believe me to make even the very first game... it took him around a year !
so porting it to something else considering that shockwave is like too different from any other engine, it would take him another year or even more just to port the thing to something as hard to understand as the C/C++ engine ! cause yeah java is C/C++ !

hope this answer will be better for you to understand then the simple no you got !
BTW, kester... if you didn't understand what LAG is really then do some research ont he forum or even go to senshuk if its still online, the answer to lag is there and you'll find that even the biggest online game ever created will have lag whatever the engine you use !

...short description...
LAG = the time the data takes to get from computer to the other all the way back and forth !

thus lag isn't your computer nor the program... its mainly the time it takes the data to get fromt he network all the way to your opponent and come back to you !

consider as a person making a travel, that travel isn't instant, it takes time to go from one place to the other ! that is lag !
[/quote]
But lag can be improved right?

Dark_Paladin_X 04-04-2005 01:40 AM

lol....Karma has spoken....

and lag can be improved over time, it just has to do with better internet connections, speeds and improved players (i.e. shockwave).

In a way, it all ties in together. When they all egt an upgrade, we would notice better gameplay.

SSJ is right, I'm a programmer and I only know the BlitzBasic language. No one is not perfect! Java is much slower than Java anyway!

*sigh*.. i don't even know where to start to comment on the "errors" of this thread...

(where is good'ol 2000warrior when i need him ?? )

Oh god.. Karma. He of little faith :(.

Anyone who complains about this game being in shockwave: Honestly, is it that hard to download the latest version?? What's the damn difference between having to go to sun.com for u're download or macromedia?? Right now, there is little java has over shockwave in terms of ability to make an online game (other than the fact that java's more popular than shockwave for some reason).

kester-: The reason we have so much lag in here doesn't have as much to do with the fact that we're running on shockwave than the fact that we can't afford the kind of servers/fast internet u'd expect to see from Bungie (and by "we" I'm referring to the players of the game).

SSJKarma: God... um.. it's not because he doesn't know those languages. If you've ever looked at some programing langauges, you'd know that most of them look about the same. That goes for Java, C++, DirectX, and most everything else out there. Honestly, you should get to know TMyApp a bit before talking about the limitations of his programing abilities. He's been programing for quite some time now, and had he wanted to, he could have made this game in Java, or Flash, or some other language to make it a bit crappier.

And cyberfuturism hosts everyone's game?? Dear god no. Everyone's game is hosted on their own computers (hence the term "host game"). If you challenge somebody and they accept, you're hosting. If you join a hosted game, then whoever's server u joined is hosting on their computer.

alamgir: Yes and no. Yes, it can be improved by our servers... if we had [ insert some random rich corporation's ] funding behind us, we could just host all the games on the site and provide insane amounts of bandwidth. No, it can't be improved because the amount of lag you experience is directly associated with your own internet connection.

In case anyone's still wondering why TMyApp chose to write this game in Shockwave, it's because of the afore mentioned statements: Shockwave allows the players of the game to host matches on their own computers. That way sfo isn't bogged down with hosting matches and nobody gets a "server unavailable" message when they go to sfo.

I think that answers most of the comments/questions in this thread that wern't answered.. or misanswered.

Damn are you and TMyApp connected?

TMyApp 04-12-2005 12:13 AM

2000warrior: thank you

This man is my exact double! ...it has a puffy tail !!

Dark_Paladin_X 04-12-2005 09:16 AM

oh wow...there's so much about programming that i don't have a clue on.

could sure use a tutor..lol

blanka09 04-12-2005 11:55 AM

More than a tutor. You need Loads of classes

So before this topic gets locked and I swallow the key, anyone else with some questions on why we actually need shockwave to play the game ??
