View Full Version : LAG question TMyApp - I've now moved on to other possibilities

And the questions continue

Let me give you an example..

one of my friends has a 56k and a ping time of 18ms...your telling me I should experience lag against him?

while another friend of mine on cable has a ping time of 90 ms, and his lag for the most part is non-existant, and is much less then my other friends...even though his ping time is WAY higher (comparetively speaking).

See this is what I mean, when I say that its not adding up.

That ping time of 18 ms is rediculously low, I shouldn't see any lag against that if connection speed has no part it in, but yet I do,
Why is that?

And this all leads to an important (and new ) question for you TMyApp..
If the packets are so small, and the bandwidth isn't the problem. Then could it be shockwave itself? I dont recall it being designed to handle a game like this. Is it possible that its shockwave itself that can't create/send or receive/open the data quick enough?

I know Im stretching here...I have no idea what it could be...but one things for sure, an 18ms ping should not experience lag if the packets are less then 100 bytes.

well, if u read up on macromedia... they CLAIM shockwave was always designed for games like this one... (but when was the last time u saw a multiplayer action game on shockwave.com ??? if anyone could do it... wouldn't they be able to pull it off?)

shockwave is not the fastest engine on the planet... i have never been able to see a ping of under 150 in this game :(

the only thing i can do is go by the book... try to make the code as efficient as possible, and hope for the best :(

still... the average ping in this game for me is around 300 (@least with 0.2f+).... and i'm ALWAYS lagged (since the constant hits from the users taking away my bandwidth)

still... i really can't complain to a ping of 300... i know exactly where the other player is, and i find it to be a fun and fair game (maybe i'm just too used to the lag.. i don tknow)

>1000 ... fine.. THATS when u start to see some problems... >2500, dont even bother playing

but i still dont get how any of the changes in 0.2f+ has changed the game enough 4 u that u dont consider it playable anymore :( ... if only u could record one of u'r games into an AVI or someting... cause i just dont get it :(

I emailed this to you TMyApp, but I'll explain it here.

Im going to point out that the lag hasn't changed for me, and you remember when you said the game engine tries its best to predict whats goin on?
I should also like to point out that for whateve reason, when the game is predicting, it completly animates what it thinks should be happening then corrects itself by placing the other player where they should be.
Well, think of this in terms of real time (not game time)
With the old version a shinku for example took up about 2 seconds of real time. So when that was finished animating, if the guy wasn't getting hit by it like you though he was, you would have 2 secs of real time lag to make up for.
NOW that shinku takes consideragly longer to animate in real time, hence; more real time lag to make up for.
That's how I can say the game lags so bad I can't see where somebody is half the time, because something as simple as a roundhouse kick takes a while to animate, and if I've combo'ed into it, then when its done animating, the other guy is in such a different place that I know it would have taken him a while to get there from where he was (yet I never saw any of the movement)

And truthfully it comes down to simple timing. Before when the game was quicker If someone teleported in front or behind me I could make a spit second move (whether it was get out of the way, or attack), and the game was fast enough that I would be able to avoid getting hit. But since the game has gotten more deliberate, when someone teleports near me, I can try as I might to do what I used to do, but the game isn't quick enough to let me get out of the way. It becomes a situation, where If you teleport near me I can do nothing but eat whatever attack your using on me.

Oh btw...the ping times I gave you were found using dos prompt..but it kinda goes back to the prog; if dos can get such a low ping time, then why can't the game?

And here I always thought that playing naked would solve it all...wait it still might? Zing was playing naked thats why he didn't get lag regardless of the ping!

Is it just me or would someone who plays naked be adicted to porno??

Just saying that I've just experience what Zing79's trying to explain to everybody and I should say that it's worst that a major pain in de arse!

Especially when the shinu lasts FOREVER for the opponent, all of a sudden, he's in back of you when you were sure he was far and then is laughing at you because he thinks u suck....

Anyways... I do know I don't have the best connection and not the worst (DSL) but it looks like LAG was, is and will still be present and we cannot do much about it... But maybe we could add a section for the fast connections and another one for the slow ones... Or the one who is challenging gets to choose turbo or not and if his opponent is not down with it, well he just has to say no! And that's it! Move on to another challenger!

Anyways... just needed to get that out... because being disrespected by every muthaF******* stupid noobs is just what I don't need! But I guess the world is made with different kind of peoples... Some may be corrects, some may be buttholes...

I've said enough.... Peace
