New version "concern" - I REALLY hate to do this

I understand the slowdown of game play was done with the intent of reducing lag.

Well the lag is still there with most ppl...
only now with the reduced game speed the teleporting is insane...I have only fought one person (Lordcyris), where the reduced game speed actually helped deal with lag.

I have lost matches today, where I NEVER at any point in the match actually knew where he guy was (and these are ppl I have fought before without to much of a problem). And I cant stress the NEVER part enough.

I never really had trouble dealing with lag (I just accepted it), but now with the game running in slo-mo it becomes so much more pronounced thats its unbearable.

I have found myself swearing quite badly at the screen a few times today, because Im getting pounded, and I cant even tell where the guy is, and im not talking about a second, im talking about an actuall long period of time..

I hate to complain about the game (its not really my style)...but I cant play it as is right now, because there has been a new equation introduced :(

well... i wont talk about the Lag, since it is not really an issue here (it was always there, and there aren't enough changes in 0.2f/g to improve it, or to create more of it)

however, the "slow-mo" is not really a problem... in fact, it is SUPPOSED to be this way... it is the way MOST people ALWAYS saw the game (it's true)

you see, there was a really nasty problem with versions 0.1a-0.2e... they never ran @ the same speed on all systems... they were slower on slower machines, and faster (too fast) on p800+

as a result, some games ran @ 20fps, and other ran @100+ (which really shouldn't be, the game was always ment to run @40fps)... this created major problems, MORE lag and did i mention major problems?

you'd have a person like u (zing) do 3 fireballs, b4 the 1st one would finish on the other end (if a person had a slow system, p200-300)...

so, a HUGE change was done to the engine in 0.2f+, now, the game will never run faster than it should, so, a person playing on a p300, who challenges someone with a 2ghz system, can be sure that the game will run @ the same speed on both boxes

soundz great? i think so :biggrin: to top it all off, the whole engine is now faster, allowing even a p500 to run the game fullscreen (640x480 on most good video cards)

only one problem (someone like u zing)... you have now been used to the game @ 60+ fps, running @ super smooth arcade-like speeds.. and worst of all, it was NEVER ment to run that way on u'r sytem :(

but, there is some hope... now that the engine is faster, i can finaly implement a "turbo" mode for the game (since it was supposed to run on "normal" all this time)

other than that... give it a week or two, i'm sure u'll get used to the "slower" speeds (@ the same time as the p200 people get used to the MUCH faster gameplay on their end) :biggrin:

u gotta laugh i think the problrm here is zing the advantage u probably had with a broadband connection and a powerfull machine is now gone and the stakes here are evened up a bit

i think it is good that way the way the slo-mo thing get since now i got chance cause b4 i fought someone who hadoken x3 times then shinkuu-hadoken then doing it again i was kind of death in 2 or 3 seconds and i never had time to do anything so i think it is better that way and im glad cause i am on a AMD K6/2 500 MHZ i had to play the game 320x200 and less to had a good speed !

So that broadband connection that sent info to YOU at 30k a sec was an advantage for me right? I guess it must have been an advantage when you were sending info to me at 5k a sec..

And as far as the game speed, Shockwave is a taxing engine...I wasn't an idiot trying to run it at 1600x1200 in full screen...I had my resolution set at 800x600 and I still wasn't playing it at full screen, so why cant you fools make the same #### adjustment?

the problem is you ppl with your pathetic connections sending info to me at a horrid pace, and the game beying so slow that I can never tell where you are...

Theres nothing I can do because theres more of you then there is of me, so Im shit out of luck!

Whatever though, it is what is...but some of you ppl need to realize that your awesome game play now is coming at the expense of other ppl.
And let me tell you...from what Ive heard, the gameplay IS NOT even now...you guys (56k'ers) are running the game perfectly while the rest of us are dying a slow death (pun intended)

However TMyApp is still working hard, so I can't knock a guy for trying his ass off to make ppl happy. It's just that the game has become unplayable for *me*. So I guess that makes it my problem, not yours.

Im kinda in the same boat Zing - I run cable at home and Im on an OC3 at work. It does seem like this game is geared towards the slower connection people. Any way you could go back to how it was and just separate people onto different servers according to how fast their connection speed is? If a 56ker wants to fight someone on cable it should be their tough luck not the cable person's.

well, its possible, the people could put in their connection type in the options menu, still, a DSL in china is prob same as 56k here (if u'r playning from northamerica)

only other thing is that "turbo" function... if u know your connection can handle it, u can pick it... and enjoy a much faster gameplay

the real trick is how to pull it off... do u set turbo on/off in the options menu? b4 u challenge someone... or, the way the arcade did it (after you pick u'r char)... but even then, do both of the people have to agree on the speed? or does one of them just pick? ... what if the slower person doesn't want to play, but the OC3 guy is sick and tired of slo-mo?

well.. if we can figure this out, i can get something goin prob in a week or so (it wouldn't be that hard)...

on top of that.... we need to find a new host for the game (the one that wont say "yeah, u had unlimited bandwidth for your money, but, now u'r leeching too much, so give us more!!" :biggrin:

till then, type "/turbo 1" in the console while in practice mode to remember the good'ol days :biggrin:

LOL i play the game in the default screen no sound have an amd 533 running @ 500Mhz and a 56k connection i know when i am playing someone with cable or dsl cos no matter how much u hit them there energy bar dont move an inch thats what i mean by an advantage i dont often get the problem when they dissapear

sorry but that my opinion and the lag in the game is a fact.
and another thing i have 56k and i played counterstrike against ppl with 20 - 40 ping while i had a ping of 197 and i held my own they even accepted me in they're clan my connection didnt matter to them it was my skill..
and counterstrike was a high connection game..

now as for the teleportation try playing with your connection options see which one fits you.. trust me they work

But I guess Im just making my problems up here. Read ANY of my posts recently. Im quite emphatic of the fact that I cant tell where you are half the time. THAT IS NOT EVEN!!!!
You yourself said it was running smoothly for you. So I guess thats what you talk about when you say we are even now.
And dont you think I tried all the settings?

Ramrod..EVERYONE DEALS WITH LAG...Dont you think the guys you were playing were having the same problem against you? Because I can guarantee you they were.

It has nothing to do with being a poor sport...I CAN NOT PLAY THE #### GAME!!

Its that simple man. Stop trying to interpret things by looking at your situation, and assuming everyones is exactly the same.

And Id like to point this math out to you...you have a 56k..
your download stream is about 4.5k with a good modem, and your upload is about half that..so will say 3k a sec..

do the math you receive info at 4.5 while im receiving info at about 3k...

When a 56k and broadband meet up in, the game gets played at a 56k level. except your receiving data at a better pace then I am.

And heres the BIG difference between this version and previous versions.
***Lag is always there, but at least before I could deal with teleporting by getting out of the way or doing a move. The game was quick enough that I could adjust to lag by doing something. NOW, the game is so deliberate that if you teleport in behing me "its good nigth time for", because I cant get out of the way, the game isn't running quick enough for me to make any split second moves.***


The exact reverse of what your talking about has happened to me...All the skill I use to put in dealing with lag is useless now, because theres nothing I can do except eat your attacks when you teleport.

I could go on with this forever...But the truth is Lord...your anger at me isn't going to help the game run better for me. All it does is re-inforce the fact there are more of you there are of me, so I can basically kiss my own ass for all you care.
