About ranks! - Just a thought

hey this is just a thought that i had...i was just thinking that maybe we should get rid of the "ranks" its kinda stupid if u really think about it..now ppl r starting to judge the way u play just if your rank is low..but rank doesnt prove your skillz. most ppl in top 50 and top 10 will hardly play anyone lower then them which is also stupid :plain: i was just thinking that maybe u moderators should get rid of the ranks...just a thought u dont have to if u dont want to i do know that many ppl will disagree wit me on this but i just want to know wat u think...same goes for the moderators! :hehe:

it also seems that all ppl care about is there rank. when they end up having a good rank they start to get addicted and start to go insane when it gets lower..im not saying its for everyone but its for most ppl that i know..not mentioning any names i just hope u fine the time to read this and write back to this topic! i just hope this gives u an idea to the mods that we really dont need ranks all we need is the skill! :hehe:

Hmm...i agree with sports...but then i disagree with sports,i mean its true that high rank ppl wont play the low rank * i do it myself..* but most of the ppl that have low rank usally suck. They would proablly be beaten fast, and most of the time there n00bs, yes i do get addicted when my rank falls..but i think its cool having a high rank. It shows u got something, but then again....if a person fought a rank 10 person, left the game...that person would have gotten the points for nothing....so i see what ur saying, but that dosent mean that ranks should be gone from the game...it gives the game more to play with, if there werent any ranks..whats the point of playing? Its fun to see if u can beat high rank ppl.. other wise id say it would be boring....and yes it is skill that lets u beat the higher rank ppl....but rank shows of that skill, if i was good but there werent any ranks....how would u know if i was skilled? U would have to fight me, it also lets n00bs know that there no match for a high rank person cause the high rank is proablly good, and would lose if he fough em. Well thats my take on ranks.

well ranks dont really prove anything just that uve been playing for a while and gatherd quite a few points but there could be someone who hasnt played as much as u but has a lower rank but could be more skilled then u and still beat you ass...so just for all of u who ranked in top 10 dont think that ppl who r lower then u arent as "skilled" as u ;)

Oh please ppl with low rank do suck, only a couple of ppl that i personaly have fought with a low rank are pretty good...the rest are just ready to get there asses kicked.

Firstly, imagine what life would be like in the world of xmvssf online without top scores. For sure the scoring system could be revamped. Take it into account, ranking will NEVER be a true reflection of a person's abilities. Even in the world of professional sport, the top10 ranked players are'nt necessarily the best 10 athletes, at that particular time. The ranks are basically there in the form of motivation. I too was formerly ranked1 at one time. Was i the best player in the world? No because i had to bust my ass 24/7 to get there. Five hundred matchs in a week was a marathon. While others had only played 20 games, and yet were a few points ahead of me. Competition is a very strong desire. There is'nt much tournaments around to participate, in a contest of sheer skill. The alternative? Think of one, without involving points at stake. And i'll gladly accept your proposal for top scores to be vanquished. One thing thats riddled me for quite a time now, is the mysterious disappearance of the archived top50. Barely any of them consume a spot in todays top50 list. Some do still play. Yet acquire a low rank. There goes the theory of the best players acquiring a high rank, again i may mention. Example someone of my magnitude is now ranked a lonely 1000 something. Lets face it the highest score at this present time is way too high. Which of course is the obvious bait. Put it this way as a food chain. PlayerA produces the points.(by playing the most amount of games) PlayerB comes along and lays feast to PlayerA. Absorping his points. Then PlayerC comes along and imitates what PlayerB does to PlayerA. The cycle goes on and on. Whats the basic logic behind this? Player loses 10 points at all costs, whatever the situation is. Loss to higher ranked player and a loss of 10 points. Loss to lower ranked player and a loss of 10 points. Whilst a win against a lower ranked player will always result in a loss of 1o points. Now this is the catchy bit. A win against a higher ranked player will result in the player receiving half the difference of points dividing him from the recipient. And thats what lured all the great players from continuously competing for a high rank. Vastly knowledgable of the consequenses required. Once accomplished why continue? Because the top scores are a place for losers.(a bit hasty from me i admit) Thats my theory of this campaigns unsuccessful top scores. The best players now are'nt necessarily in the top50. Of course i've experienced this dilemma. Thats why i've come to this conclusion. The cure? A suggestion of mine. Perhaps a player that loses to a higher ranked player, should lose 10 points period. But, whereas a player that loses to a lower ranked player should lose a quarter of the points dividing him from the victor.e.g. PlayerA=100 points, PlayerB=20 points. 80 points the diffrence. PlayerB will receive 40 points for defeating playerA. And PlayerA will lose 20 points from losing to PlayerB. So thus the standings are as follows: PlayerA=80 points, PlayerB=60 points. Now whoa, a dramatic change to say the least. Don't you guy's agree? I feel the games lost that cutting edge in thier ranks. Which resorted to the departure of their top players. This should make competition far more intense and fierce. Something to play for. This of course is the revamping i talked of earlier. Ppl opening threads declaring their intentions of vagueing top scores is utter humiliation for me. Action needs to be taken. Theres not a lot to play for these days. Thats of course why i Jenson rarely appear in chatroom. The loss of appeal. No top scores, is just.......nah i can't bare the thought. Well that should add a wee spark or too. Well theres my 2 cents. Lol the topic should've been typed in from new features.

i agree with super sonic X without rank i don't think that most fo the ppl will play at all. most/all ppl want to play because of rank, i know this, becasue of when i first started to play this game, i only wanted to play because of ranks. but now i don't even care anymore, i rarely play that game.

No matter how many ppl hate rank, your never going to get rid of it. No new ppl will start playing(that may actually be a good thing) and the noob killers will prolly stop playing too.

Whoever started this thread, why is it so important to you to fight high ranked ppl. Just start a host game and wait for ppl to join.

I say that everyone should keep an open mind about fighting lower ranked fighters. Like sports said, a person's skill isn't always defined by rank....now, i know i'm pretty high in the ranks, and do a little ignoring myself, but i can assure you, i will try harder not to engage in such activity.... :xmas:

we CAN'T get rid of the top scores... thats just stupid...

what we can do (and something that i think makes sence) is give everyone more "options"

for one, ability to NOT submit the scores.. thus, the player would be "unrated"... or, perhaps an option to hide their score while in game (when they enter chat and such)... others would still be able to look the scores up on the web, but, not judge the person right away while they are in the game (again, this is just an option... the high ranked players would still be able to show off their rank)

Jenson made some good points as well (yes i read the whole thing)... i'm not sure about players being able to lose more than 10 points (a lot of the users already complain of how hard it is to stay at the top once u'r there).. but it is something to think about (if enough people support the idea, it can be implemented)

someone also mentioned the top players never playing anyone but the n00bs... as of now.. i dont' have a solution for that one... (we could make them play someone from the top 50 @least once/twice each week, but, what would that do??)

again (as mentioned long long time ago) i personally think the solution is to have multiple filters on the ladder...ie: u'd be able to see the ranks sorted by ranks, points, other... thus, you can be #1 on one ladder (again, its the same one, just, different filter, with a new name) and close to last place on another (bucause u just play n00bs)...

then there is the ability for people to host their own ladders... (u create "Jason and friends" ladder, and anyone who has the right password would be able to be listed there)... that really doesn't solve the problem, but, gives people who are fed up with the "official" top scores something else to do...

well.. those are my thoughts... keep postin' u'rs... we might solve this one day.. and make EVERYONE happy... :biggrin:

There are about 150,000 people playing this game, and if you take away the rank, only about 150 users will play, ain't that right?

I know we say that we only play for fun, but yeah.. right..!!
Even you will probly stop playing...

And if there aren't any ranks, then how will we know "Who's good and who isn't?"

We're not gonna play ALL of them to find out, are we?
And if we ask, everyone will just say "I'm good, right?"

#######: i will not say this cause even the top 150 aren't the very best at it !

example:
i was playing for fun (really just playing for fun) and i ewas about 9xxx almost 10xxx. then i entered against someone (dont remember his name and i am glad to) we fought 1 on 1 Tag, i beated the hell out of him real easily and that about 3 times. and guess what, he was 150 in the top scores !

i am not a real good player cause of my lag almost everyone in here can beat me too hell !

after that fight when i entered in the chat room it sayed that i was now about 7xx in the top scores. was it a bug, i think not !

so my point is that:
i dont think the ranking system works fine now that we are about 150,000 fighters.

i am thinking of another system thing.
how about the ladder system being that you can only fight higher people, the top 50 could fight anyone they want then other people will have no choice but to fight higher people !

Yeah, if you hate ranks, then don't fight people with high ranks, just fight for fun. Though fighting for ranks made this game much more boring(experience), it has to stay. Like I said before just fight for fun and don't care about the people who say "Nferno666, fight me".

Maybe for submitting scores.. but restricting who you are ALLOWED to fight based on your ranking? Yeah right. Just what are you going to do when you enter a chat room and there isn't anyone ranked above you and you're not in the top fifty?

I think the best solution is to have a multi ladder system where you can view ranks according to score, win loss ratio, and total wins. Something to keep in mind though. When this 1 player mode that TMyApp has talked about hits, it might be a good idea to implement a high scores because then NO ONE could bitch about how their lag's making them lose, or that the people with the best high scores are newbie killers.
