no they're not, they're alternative and rock.

metal=electric guitar

metal uses very little drums and a lot of guitar, sometimes solo guitar parts. and if you go to sites like yahoo, they classify disturbed and papa roach as rock/alternative.

real metal bands are like,

deftones, metallica, rob zombie, etc
