Put your answers here... I just want to research other peoples opinions on why they do this.... and please give reasonable answers other than " to be ranked 1"

For me ranks don't matter just my skills (rank 300 somothing)
I beat people that have 200 ranks lower of mine :sly:

Whenever I fight for rank, I ONLY go after high ranked people. Newbie squashing just takes too long.

I only fight for rank on occasion.. and I do it so that other high ranked people will fight me (so I don't have to go around finding certain ones that accept challenges from low ranked people). I do this mostly because if the guy's high ranked, it means they can sometimes give you a good fight (not just die in under 10 seconds like some of the newer people). Also, most people high ranked get there by playing all the time (mostly newbies) and they've at least got some experience fighting. But the biggest reason I do it is so that the top 20 or so will fight me (usual they're all good fighters, although most will say something like "you suck, you lag, etc." after you get done beating them).

to me, ranks are important. they like tell you someones skill and how good they are. rank 1[i will get] shows that the person is extremly good, the best at the game.

Rank doesnt show how good you are(in most cases). Take omnislasher(mcbeth) for example: he never faught anyone who had a high rank. He faught like 200 noobs per day to stay at #1 rank. HE would never fight anyone who could beat him, and if he did by accident then he would leave the game.So him being #1 didnt show how good he was only how much time he spent playing the the game. If you are known for being good and have a good rank then then i guess rank would show how good u r. Just take a look at the old top scores, u will see that tarkan and nferno are the highest rank players in almost all of the scores. So in their cases, rank shows how good they are at the game. Well thats just what i think about rank.

i don't care for the ranks...

but when i do see that one day i'm at 5xxx then the next day i'm at 5xx, i just can't stand still knowing that i beated someone that far away from me !

true that the ranking system isn't really showing how good you are, but it sure feels good to know that in 1 fight you passed about 1xxx person in the rank in only 1 fight !

true that people who are in the top 10 can fight n00b all day to keep their place, but they can't know if you are good or not until it's too late !

when they quit the match there in, they will lose.
so when they are engaged, they can't escape the truth !

ok, Tarkan, i want to be #1 lol... that and..
i want to fight all the veterans, and good @ss people..
so i can become as good..
back in the days, people like u, nferno, zing, lordcyris were top ranked,
i keep on fighting ya'll to have a good clean match, somtimes i win, sometimes i dont..
but not anymore, the topscores are filled with cheapos..
if only i had a better comp. u definately know i would kick their arses...
to me.. 1st place used to mean something, like u are as good as they are (not better) but as good...
now it dont mean jack... :sarcasm:

I used to care about my rank. The main reason is just to be well known, I guess. Playing video games is considered a nerdy hobby by a lot of people, but some of us take it very seriously, and want to be the best at our own personal favorite games. But it isn't enough to be the best at a game, now, is it? You want everyone else to know that you're the best at it, too. Well, that's my explanation, anyways. People just want to be known. They want to demonstrate their skill to everyone else that shares the same passion for video games that they do. I gave up trying to be #1 a long time ago, though. I've been playing long enough to know who the best (for the most part) in this game is, and beaten more than a few of them, so I don't feel like I've got anything to prove. Besides, with people like Nferno and d148 running around, it's almost impossible to get/stay at the top (unless you play all freakin' day).

The ranks, in a way, are a big part of this games' success, in my opinion. A lot of people wouldn't play half as much as they do if they weren't trying to get their rank up. I guess it's just the "competitive spirit." Why join a tournament? Same reasons, I think. Just for the challenge of it.

i think rank gives people no life..
people are so worried that there rank might change and fight all day

i like fighting vets and skilled fighters.

like last week best fight of the week

it was a good fight and im actually having fun. but most ranked players dont have fun and just worry all the time about there rank.

Nah, I used to play for rank because,(every one knows this), I wanted to be #1, once...

But, now that I got my dream up many many times,.. I dont care!!

don't really care but coolplayer keep asking me whats was my rank. what does rank do to people its like go in a server and some asks me about rank. If i am bored i want to fight some might say i fight only people in top 50 so ohh well i don't care :sarcasm:
