my way of thinking about all this is the ps2 get real popular cause its SONY who made it...

fact:
XBOX got a 733 CPU
GAMECUBE got a 633
and PS2 got a 333

Fact:
XBOX DVD
PS2 DVD
gamecube mini-disk

anyway go get the hardware spec and you'll see what i mean !
my point is clear, (for me) PS2 got so popular cause of marketting not cause of it's actual capabilities and i think if sony says kill yourself most of the people will just do it cause sony said to do it !

what do you think of my theory ?

On a factorial, intelligent approach to your theory, I would have to say that it is wack.

So, the SNES had even lower specs then that, no 3-D power really at all, but hey, people still deam it the best system ever.

The success of the PSX gave Sony a reputation, so people bought the PS2 fast, and alot of people did. Thus, creating a large user base, THUS creating more games for the system, and alot of very good games at that.

but do you think that denying the XBOX is a good thing ?

even the gamecube can beat up ps2 but people dont seems to look it the right way cause they think ps2 is better whaever console is gonna get out !

i heard people said that XBOX sucks, and that for no reasons !
same for gamecube, and i think people think that way cause they think sony is the best compagnie ever just cause one console worked right !

i remember the dreamcast had the same thing !
people said no to it cause PS2 was gonna be out soon, but people waited 3 years after that. what happenned to sega ? they have been kicked out of the competition for what ? NO REASON ! just cause people think sony is the god of all compagnie...

same happenned to the jaguar and the saturn, people dont see the console they see the compagnie and tell that they suck cause they sucked 10 years ago !

Guess what ! nintendo put sony on top and what did sony did ? they simply trashed them up with some PSX...

anyway, i refused to think that PS2 is that good to beat all other console by a mile !

maybe, jus maybe, its the games that PS2 has on it. XBOX is like a system 4 sports games. Gamecube is like a system 4 kid games. PS2 is the system 4 action games and sports games. it has a variety of games 2 play on it and u can watch DVD's and play CD's and stuff. XBOX came out later so ppl stayed w/ PS2 to play DVD's. its just an overall good system 2 have.

 RESIDENT EVIL ISNT ONLINE FOR GAMECUBE YOU IDIOT!

heres my reasons people buy ps2

1.easier to use, and if you wnat to play dvds you dont have to buy a package like micro$ofts xbox

2. More games, ande better games, and they have exclusive games, thats why alot of people hate xbox, the only good game thats xbox only is halo, all the other games are 3rd party developers who make the same game for ps2 and gamecube

3.its easier to use online, you dont have to buy a package and give money to micro$oft

and the final word

it has gta3 and devil may cry, why would you need anything else?

Dude Karma, people like PS2 because of the games, the CONTROLLER, the graphics.

And you said DC got kicked out for NO REASON? No, DC got kciedk because it sucked totally and had some bad abd bad games...

And PS2 is not popular because Sony made it, it's better because it has THE BEST Games.
And if you still think that it's because of Sony, then why don't you take a look at "Sony vaio?", it came out and dropped RIGHT AWAY..

XBOX is like a system 4 sports games.
Halo (one of the best FPS's of all time and deemed game of the year by many magazines and websites), DOA3, Spiderman, Max Payne, soon to be GTA 3 with improved graphics (that will kick major @$$!), soon to be soul caliber 2, soon to be Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (probably will kick @$$, THPS2x, THPS3, soon to be House of the dead, Hunter: The Reckoning, soon to be James Bond 007: Nightfire (might revolutionize the Bond genre), Project Gotham Racing, Genma Onimusha, Amped, and many, many more.

I have a PS2 and I have to say that it is equal to XBOX with Gamecube coming in a very close second. XBOX has internet access (available this Fall I think.) along with HDTV capabilities and is the most powerful of the consoles, but, does not have a better controller than PS2.

Gamecube comes in second because, even though it has some great games and graphics, it does not play CD's, DVD's, or even have a plan for internet access. The one with most potential is definitely XBOX, but the one with the most lasting power is the PS2. It came out a year earlier, has the most impressive cast of games of all the consoles, and is very practical with the built in DVD player and it is capable of internet access, but it might not branch out into that entire internet genre.

Oh, did you know you can burn games/cd's on PS2?
Just gotta upgrade it a bit.

And X-BoX and GC don't have that!
So HA!

Burning games = baaaad.....

GameCube is not for kid games, inovation buddy. The PS2 may rock, but just blood and gore does not make a game. To sell a game with no blood and gore is a treat, like Zelda, sold as fast as I pee, great game...no blood....

So, not kiddie games, inovative games, a diffrent kind of game, that is still fun, every Play Mario 64?

The more games is released for the system(whether it's both crap and good), the better.

Why Nintendo sucks:

I used to be a die-hard Nintendo fan. Some of my favorite games of all time were for the NES and SNES. But Nintendo seems to have an annoying tendency to not give the fans what they really want. I remember back in the day when SNES was still going strong, Sega had just came out with their 32X add-on for the Genesis. Nintendo's response to this was to circulate rumors of a CD-ROM add on for the SNES in various gaming magazines. It could have happened, because the SNES did have a port on the back of it to accommodate extra hardware. But it never happened. Nintendo instead focused on developing a new system that was supposed to play CD-ROM games, the "Ultra 64" (this was after at least a good year and a half of putting up with rumors of a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES in magazines like "Nintendo Power"). Although the "Ultra 64" was rumored heavily to be a CD-ROM system (much to the satisfaction of many fans), Nintendo instead decided to make it a cartridge based system (completely ignoring what the fans wanted), claiming that the load time of CD-ROM systems (such as the Playstation) would diminish the overall gaming experience. On a side note, Nintendo also spread rumors about collaborating with Sony to develop their new system, which was at one time called the "Nintendo Playstation." Sony went solo after Nintendo announced it's plans to stick with a cartridge based system (a bitter falling out between the two, if I remember correctly). Although all three of Nintendo's systems were cartridge-based, no effort was made for reverse compatability. If you wanted to play the old games, you simply had to hold on to your outdated systems (as if anyone wants to clutter up their shelves with three different Nintendo systems), or wait for Nintendo to make a cheesy remake for your old favorites on the latest and greatest Nintendo hardware. But of course you wouldn't get a discount for these remakes; no, you'd have to pay $60 to play 5 year-old games with slightly beefed-up graphics. Nintendo loves doing this. In fact, they're doing it to this very day, releasing games like "Super Mario Bros. 2" with a different name for the Game Boy Advance. That's what Nintendo means to me; cheap marketing ploys and false rumors. Ultimately, they don't really give a damn what the fans want, they're going to whatever they feel like doing. And it's going to be their demise.

Instead of making an adaptor to play old NES games on the SNES, Nintendo made an adaptor to play Gameboy games (pffft) of all things. And it wasn't cheap, from what I remember. For what you would have payed for the adaptor, you might as well have bought a brand new Gameboy.

Nintendo also liked making hardware and games that were only available in Japan. We never saw the the Famicom Disk System, or any of the games for it. We never saw the true version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (unless you wanted to shell out $60 dollars for Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES), despite the popularity of the original Super Mario Bros. Our version of "Super Mario Bros. 2" wasn't even a Mario game at all, originally. Nintendo more or less took the Japanese game (which was NOT made by Nintendo) "Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic," changed the 4 main characters to 'Mario' characters, and called it a Mario game.

Another thing that irritated me about Nintendo was that they made promises to fans about keeping the old systems alive after each new system came out. But in all actuallity, the predecessor would be dead within 3 months, tops.

Considering the fact that the N64 (previously called "Ultra 64") was a cartridge-based system, it was rather impressive. There was no load time whatsoever. Plus it had 4 controller ports on the front, which was very nice (meaning you didn't have to pay extra money to buy a special adaptor to play 4-player games). But cartridges had two disadvantages to CD-ROM games. One, they just couldn't hold enough data to produce large and detailed games. I read somewhere that if Squaresoft were to release "Final Fantasy 7" for N64, it would have taken at least 15 cartridges. The second disadvantage was that the cost of making cartridges was greater than that of CD-ROM games. That was Nintendo's excuse for charging $70+ for new releases, when Sony was selling brand new games for as low as $35.

The "Ultra 64" (N64) was heavily promoted. The fighting game "Killer Instinct," which was developed by Rare and Nintendo, was fairly popular in the arcades when it came out. I don't know if any of you remember this or not, but right before the title screen would come up, you could hear a voice say "Killer Instinct: Soon to be available for your home system, the Ultra 64!" Many fans of "Killer Instinct" bought an N64 just for that reason. But once again, Nintendo completely disregarded the desires of their fans, and instead released a cheesy, watered-down version of the game for the SNES. Many fans were furious about this. So Nintendo then promised that an arcade-perfect version of "Killer Instinct" was still in the works for the N64. It never happened. Once again Nintendo had lived up to their reputation of spreading B.S. rumors. The sequal to Killer Instinct (KI2) flopped in the arcades. It just didn't catch on the way the first one had. And to add insult to injury, Nintendo released a game for the N64 called "KI: Gold," which was actually a near-arcade perfect version of "KI2." Instead of giving the fans "Killer Instinct" (what they wanted), Nintendo gave them "KI2" under a new name as a cheap marketing ploy to try to make some money off of a game that was doomed from the beginning.

I've also read in gaming magazines that Nintendo is a pain in the ass to work with as far as producing games. That would explain why Nintendo doesn't have nearly as many outside game developers making games for them. I wonder if they care? I happen to think that Nintendo is content to release a new system for the sole purpose of pushing their own games, and their latest Mario incarnation. Beating at a dead horse, if you ask me. Let's see, how many Mario games are there? Mario and Wario, Mario is Missing (pfft), Mario Paint, Mario's Time Machine, Mario Golf, Mario 64, Mario Party (1-3), Mario Kart, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. (1-3), Super Mario World, Super Mario Land (1-3), Super Mario All-Stars, and let's not forget "Super Mario Advance!" (*cough* Super Mario Bros. 2 *cough*) :sly:

It seems to me that Nintendo doesn't care as much about pleasing the fans as they do about making money. And I think many people realized this, and switched to the Sony Playstation as a result.

There were a few good games for it. I have some fond memories of blowing up my friends with rocket launchers on 4-player Bond. :D But having a few good games doesn't change my overall opinion of Nintendo. Nintendo sucks.

Did you type that yourself or copy/paste from somewhere?

Either way, I sorta agree with ya, but the creator of Mario did have some gems, almost all his games where...and the N64 wasn't all that bad: Perfect Dark, Zelda series, James Bond, Harvest Moon, Star Fox, and who could forget...CONKERS BAD FUR DAY! I just hate how the games STILL cost so much =-\

I don't have a Ps2, but, My friends threw their's out right when they got it for christmas because (and I quote)"Man this thing won't even work right!". Wierd huh? But so far, I haven't seen any GC's, or Xbox's getting broken when they were first bought. O.o; but that's just me. And we can't judge by the games, as everyone has different tastes. I'm still into Pokemon Stadium 3, and I get nightmares from Resident Evil. ^.^'

Lol. Nope, I just have a lot of time on my hands, and I used to have a subscription to Nintendo Power back in the day. Nintendo Power was notorious for spreading the rumors, even doing full-length articles on things that never happened. Cheap marketing ploys aimed to keep people interested in Nintendo, but they worked on many people, including myself (until Playstation came out :D ).

hell no......... what nintendo did may not seem fair but it's smart marketing......... it keeps you guessing. It draws your attention the the company and I think they did a good job of it. I agree that 64 wasnt that great. It had a few good games but the reason it didnt reach its potential is because they basically gave up early on the system and started with gamecube. There was so much they were going to release for the 64....... like the DD system. That thing was for real and i saw the screenshots for those games....... too bad it didnt come out........ and did you hear........ hiroshi yamauchi....... the prez of nintendo and the man resonsible for making it great has retired :( its a sad sad day but they still have Shigeru Miyamoto.

The DD system? That's a new one on me. What's funny is, you're trying to defend Nintendo, but by pointing out that it never came out, you're confirming what I already said about Nintendo making up B.S. rumors and then not following through. :D

the DD did come out, but only with a few games, and only in japan.

well the DD was supposed to come out here but it would have been a waste of money since they stopped work early on the 64 to start on the gamecube....... so it would have been foolish to continue. dont you think?

ok, here is the history 101 for those who dont know there gaming history ! (troy88)

snes CD = rumors WRONGGGGGGGGGGGG
nintendo had a contract with sony to make that cd rom player, but sony in the middle of the thing saw the gretness that would get ! so they just left out nintendo with nothing and called it the SONY PLAYSTATION...

the answer to that is 2 year after that is the release of the N64 who was a pretty good competitor to the playstation !

next, there is what was called DD64 (N64 disk drives) it actually getted out but only in japan for testing purpose, guess what it was a total faillure so it never camed out in other region...

other thing like that happenned to nintendo all the rumor you can dream of nintendo saying is all wrong and true they never maked rumors to try ang keep those people with em they always does !

for your final fantasy 7 thing it wouldn't have taken that much disk. reason, some cartrige could hold up to 400mb and thats only 200 less than a cd rom so the game would have taken about 1 more cart not much for an excuse dont you think ?

ps2: game on DVD (4.2gb)
gamecube: mini CD-ROM (400mb/cd)

i think it is a pretty good console compared to the PS2
yes XBOX need something else to play DVD (movie)
but i must ask to you...
when you buy a console, what do you want to make with it ?
playing, fine !!! it's what it's made for !
listen music, it can pass to a certain level !
listen and view DVD, HEY that's not an house cinema you stupid morons !
going on internet to play with friend, it has to do with game so it's ok...
downloading thing to a 8gb hard drive... GET A fluffing COMPUTER YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT !

Remember that a console is not made for doing other thing than GAMES...

for those who think nintendo is for kid...
got news for you, resident evil isn't for kid and they do get to the nintendo compagnie (gamecube remake the 0,1,2,3 and code veronica)...

go on gamespot and you'll see if they got little game !
go on gamspot and see if XBOX has little game !

there is lots of good games out there but since they got no blood you just kill it to a level where you can say it suck but in reality it doesn't !

STOP JUDGING GAMES YOU NEVER PLAYED YOU IDIOTS !

since i get all those retard answer with lots of flaming, im not gonna reply anymore in here !

Dammit Karma, don't make me bust out the old Nintendo Power magazines to verify the rumors that I already had the displeasure of reading the first time. Nintendo Power is directly affiliated with Nintendo, so I think it's safe to assume that if you heard a rumor about something Nintendo was "planning" to do, then that's what Nintendo wants it's sheep, er, fans to think.

You are 100% wrong about the Playstation. If Nintendo truly wanted to make a CD-ROM add-on, don't you think they could have done it without Sony? It never happened because Nintendo decided to focus their efforts on a new cartridge system instead, leaving Sony up a f*cked river. Furthermore, I don't think Nintendo took the idea very seriously in the first place. What better way to keep people interested than to promise them new hardware. The fans keep their SNES and keep buying games, while waiting for an add-on that never comes.

There was no "middle" in the development of the PS. Nintendo and Sony fell out way before things got that far along. Remember the 3DO system? Well....guess what? 3DO=Playstation. The body and controllers were redesigned, but the hardware was identical.

And here it is, a quote from "Game Informer," issue 109, page 20: "Estimates from Square say that putting Final Fantasy VII ont the N64 would have required no less than 13 carts."

...If XBOX had the same games as Ps2 and the same control pad as PS2 and play any sports games like football soccer basketball and other sports and racing games with fighingt games such as street fighter series, yeah, I would Absolutly had bought it, The reason i bought my PS2 is cause of the controller and the Grand-turismo and Capcom versus SNK2 and some sports games. Yeah, PS2 isn't as powerful in chips, but powerful in Dips and tricks.
