Just heard from a friend about this, really played the hell outa street fighter 2 as a kid so I really wanted to try this out. but there are many many things I can't figure out at all.

One being that no matter how many times I hit someone online(especially with super attacks) it does no damage at all. I don't see any block animations when I hit someone with a super and when I do I see them actually take a bit of damage as opposed to none. What's the trick here?

How comes pings(what I assume is the number at the top right near the middle means) get so damn high? Anyway to reduce the ping to sub 100's?

What's so special about beating someone 5 times? First game I played with someone called X skills X(or something like that) said he'd tell me how to tag in a guy and make me a v.i.p if I let him beat me 5 times. Then as rude as he said it was fghjlaz or something and left. Later on someone asked if he could let him beat me 5 times(after _3 games) and I just left assuming this was some trick to rank themselves higher by beating new people.

What's a good place to learn tricks and combos. I already read on the rules not to post combos but I'm only asking to get directed to a place that can tell me.

What's a good way to practice? In the other street fighters there were trainning modes where I could practice moves till I could get them down real well. In this I can't really see anything then storymode and online.

Well thanks for all/any help in advance and will sure to have some fun games ;)

 ..dang!
A well versed "first time poster"..it's amazing.

Well to answer some of your questions...

Why don't players take damage, you ask?
That is LAG,
The player either blocked the attack on their end of the game, or dodged it completely...or your opponent never recieved the data stating that you threw a super at them.

And the data that would have told your PC that your opponent blocked or dodged your super...was never recieved by your PC.
(the information got loss on the internet somewhere between you and your opponent )

Why is ping so high?
The game was designed to allow players with a 56k to play....so there are bound to be games where the ping is through the roof.
..but not all games will be like that.
I have seen some awesome sync's where the game is truly running 'real time'.
i/e: you hit your opponent, and they take the damage a few thousandths of a second later.

Whats so specail about beating someone 5 time?
..nothing...nothing at all.
You'll get better as you learn how the game runs on your PC with whatever ISP your using.
...everybody's game plays a little different then everyone elses because everyone owns different PC's and different internet connections.
It will just take you getting use to how the game runs on your system VS your opponents in order to get better.
(there are thousands of PC's/ISP/Set Up's vesus what you run...but you will eventualy begin to see the pattern of game play required to defeat an opponent, it just takes time and practice.)

Whats a good place to learn the moves?
Definetly gotta say that it's, http://nosoul4evr.cyberfuturism.com :D
...same website that supply's you the character moves found in the "Help" section of the game found on the "Main Menu"

Whats a good way to practice?
Go into "Story Mode", at the begining of the first match, press the #1 on your Keyboard.
You should hear the words "Mission Complete"
This will disable the computers AI, and allow you to practice against a motionless opponent.
Bare in mind that you can only shut the computers AI off during the first match....
In the second match you will have to fight the computer.

don't let people trick like that, tagging is very hard to do and isn't a secret, to tag u just press mk and mp at the same time,
and u must be playing with a laggy comp;utor or you are fighting someone very laggy, becuase when you fight someone the damage they take from supers isn't counted on your screen, it is counted on their screen.

therefore u need to anticipate people's movements along with lag in order to get good like that.

the closest thing to practice is in story mode when you are on the first level, you can press 1, and your opponents will stop fighting, and you will have a full super bars, if you want to know the supers, then go to nosoul3evr's site (haha)

I don't understand how come my ping would be so high then. I have a 10/1mbit connection(yes it's hard to believe, but it really is the best ISP in America) and a self built computer able to run games like Doom3 with max FPS running good quality(specs are barton 3200, geforce 5900 ultra, 1gig 3200 ram). Surely if I can run far more stressing games there shouldn't be a problem with this one. Do I just have some kind of setting wrong?

BTW thanks for the site, it really has alot of helpfull info.

Sorry man, i realy cant tell ya too much about how the ping rating was designed for the game...i didnt code it, so i dunno.
Only one man can tell ya that...and thats TMyApp.
And if your lucky, he just may reply with a good excuse. :D *cough*

I can tell ya one thing though...
I run a 56k modem an, AMD Athalon XP 2700+ CPU, and a Geforce 3
I hold a 70-80% win ratio Vs a 20-30% loss ratio.
...and i stopped watching the ping indicator 2.5 years ago.

I fight through my knowledge of how the game operates on my PC, vs my knowledge of how the characters/players react on my screen.
..i sometimes punch into thin air in a location on the screen that i know my opponent will be.

Fight with the forthought of how an uppercut placed at a certain location on the screen at a timed juncture in the gameplay, followed by an immediate round house kick...is gonna hit you opponent...because you know he's gonna appear there..because you put him there with a hadoken 3 moves earlier..even though it dont appear so on your screen.
...umm...did that make any sence? :D

As for game settings...
Seems to be another one of those "whatever works best for you" scenerios.
The Help section of the game should be able to answer 99.98% of all your gaming needs.
Ya just gonna need to take the time to read it all.

Any whoo.
Good luck with the game man...hope ya can figure out which fighting style works best for you.
