i have looked the other way too often hoping that people can be mature enough not to abuse the "free speech" policy of this forum...

however, if people don't think they can control themselves (i'm talking to anyone who used the "f" word in their posts in the last month or so)... a filter will be added to the forum... as it has been added to the game's chat...

that is all...

i hardly cuss at all here....i use other words close to the one i really want to say to that person.. :)

A filter would be cool! Don't make it like EverQuests where it just makes it look like chibberish, make it like the code section of the Spider Man game for the PlayStaion, where if you say any 4 letter words it changed it to like Cheese or Bunny :)

asshole

Warmor, you mean like the one www.senshukentaikai.com has?

Well TMyApp, it would be Damned cool to have one of those.. but sorry, I just can't live without cussing :(.
I will try to stop thou!

Use of Profanity
puzzled leading scientists for centuries

we just have to accept swearing is a part of human culture

KidKrazyShit

you know, this really bugs the #### out of me. What is the big "f'n" deal with profanity??
How is the word "shit" different from the words "the,is,like,as,to"
THERE JUST WORDS!!! In my opinoin, if you cant handle certain words then you need to grow up. I repeat, THERE JUST WORDS. The word "f*ck" is know different from the words "me,you,us,there, computer, chair"

I dont, and don't think I will ever get the big deal with profanity. Who are we to judge what words are "bad"?
So, if a filter is going to be put in, ppl are just going to use @$$ for ass,f*(k for "the f word", sh!t for shit, so if I were you TMyApp, I wouldn't waste my time, but I guess you gotta do your own thing.

So all im asking is for ppl to just think about it, THERE JUST WORDS.

It isn't exactly profanity itself that is the problem; it is the incredible abuse of the use of profanity. People, when angry, don't just post, "F*ck you, retard." They post f*ck over and over and over...

It gets tiring to see so much profanity. A little profanity goes a long way in showing your emotion at the time; there is no need to see how many times you can use f*ck in a single post.

I also agree with KKS... whats the use, if there are more than 1 ways... and people still know what you are talking about or saying?

And TMyApp, the "Profanity Blocker 9000"(heh) also needs to be fixed in the server.. there's one problem with it, REPLY to this message to hear it...

Gothic Archangel

I do not wish a filter for the Forum. The chat room is annoying when trying to use profanity. We already have to put up with one filter in the chat rooms, lets not have it for the forum :)

TMyApp
03-10-2002, 10:30 PM
Dan is 100% right.. (did... did i just say that ??)

you say the word once when you're angry or to make a point, fine... (if you can, block it out with stars) there is good chance i won't even read the post... but some of the people use it ALL the time... 5+ times in each post... and they do it to look "cool" (as "cool" as a 12 year old can get)

all i'm saying is, if i continue to see POINTLESS swearing in threads, the filter will come on...

and KidKrazyShit, as for people who will try to avoid the filter, i have a very simple solution: you can't post profanity if you're banned

if I say sh!t, instead of shit all the time, your gonna ban me. or your just gonna go on a banning spree

No, he is talking about doing things like s h i t or things like that, I'm pretty sure. Besides that is only if the filter is applied (I think).

03-11-2002, 06:37 AM
i dont usually cuss a lot........unless provoked.

Nantuko Joe
03-11-2002, 06:39 AM
I agree with KKS's first post. They're just words. Who ever said "oh, I think I'm going to say that shit is a bad word."? After all, if someone says "f**k you," it's exactly the same as saying "screw you." "Shut the f**k up." is the same as "shut the #### up." "What the f**k" is the same as "what the ####." "Who gives a shit" is the same as "who gives a crap" or "who gives a ####" or "who gives a flying f**k?"

My point is that profanity is part of american society. If you can't learn to deal with it, then you're not going to survive in the real world. And if you can't read or hear someone say "f**k you!", then you gotta grow up.

I say no filter. Most of us on this forum are from america, and even other countries that these people are in support freedom of speech. When I go to a site and I see a filter (like on Senshukentaikai), that even filters out the words ####, crap, and ####, then I begin to wonder what the #### this world is coming to. I mean, come on. We hear worse from our fathers during football season than we do on the forum. I mean, really. Does it really bother you THAT MUCH to hear a simple "f**k you?" I'll say it again. I am against a filter, because it is childish and for prudes. I mean, seriously, how is saying the word "f**k" bad? Who officially said it was a "bad" word? What makes a "bad word" "bad"? If you are too immature or prude to handle it when someone says "f**k you", then you don't belong on the forum.

Dan Hibiki
03-11-2002, 06:41 AM
The thing that bothers me is kinda what your post did; people trying to see how many times they can fit that f*ck word into a post, and still make it make sense.

I don't know who this "meheheh" guy is... but saying stuff like this:
"blah, blah, blah...i'm so cool. i'm so intimdating. let me validate my existence by demeaning you on the internet."

Just makes me love the guy already.. lol.. awesome signature.

Now on to the topic at hand.. Profanity..
Okay.. I know our forum (Senshukentaikai.com) has the filters.. and from what I can see now.. some of you dissaprove.
But we have some simple reasons for this.
<ul>
You do not need to cuss to get your point across.
There ARE people under the age of 12 that play this game.. and they don't need to be subjected to that.
In order for a website to fulfill an air of professionality, swearing should not be permitted.
ie. if you go to your job, and start swearing at everyone, you'll get fired. simple.
I am using my site to go on my resume, and it doesn't bode well for potential employers to read and look at a page full of experlatives... :)
[/list]
So there you go, love em or hate em.. thats what I stand by, I know people who do nothing but swear every second word... and you know what is/and has become of those people?

Well, the ones who did it in High School, now work crappy part time jobs, and most of them are potheads, and the ones who do it NOW, well.. they just don't command that much respect from their peers..

You may not agree with me, and by no means are my examples aimed at everyone, so don't start flaming me. :)

And with that.. I've said my piece.

this can all be summed up rather nicely.

This is all TMy's work, and as much as you'd all like to think he's just wasting his time for you, this game does serve a purpose (and it ties nicely into what Quass said).

This is a great thing to put on a resume, to show off.
BUT...
thats only if it looks like he's running a profesional looking tight ship.

I hate being told what to say more then the next guy, but this game is not a right that you have, its a privilege.

To say this is a "free country" or that you have a right to "free speech" (see Token for your best example), is completely bogus, and isn't going to fly here.

There are rules put in place by those who run the establishment. They are put there to make things fun for EVERYONE, not just a select few.

As is with this, the easiest thing to do is simply tell you to stop swearing as opposed to forcing ppl to put up with your missuse of the english language.

And if you think we are being mean to you, just take a look at the forum rules (conveniently posted for all, yet so few of you seem to know them). It won't take you long to notice that we let you guys get away with ALOT of nonsense.

It was only a few days ago, that I put a post up telling you guys to stop ripping at n00bs, and this ties rather nicely into it, seeying as how swearing plays a large role in that.

Swearing is NOT part of everyday life, no matter who tells you that. It is NOT an accepted form of communication in the real world either.

To anyone who thinks otherwise, it is YOU who must come to terms with the fact that having an intelligent conversation without swearing is the ONLY real way to express yourself in life.

And if you take only one thing out of this entire post I just made, its that this little corner of the world is run without question by TMyApp. If a rule is put in place do not attempt to curve it or abuse it to your own ends;
Abide by it, and follow it as if it were law, because to those in charge, that's EXACTLY what it is.

Selvin

Dang you people put this on your resume?? I guess there is a higher plan to everything. Well then if you put it that way Zing, Quass, and TMyApp add the filter.

and just who are we to decide what is ok to subject 12 year olds to?

Nantuko Joe
03-12-2002, 07:07 AM
That is also true, KKS. After all, what kid hasen't (sp) heard his dad start swearing at the TV during football season? What kid hasen't heard his dad start swearing at some ####### that cut him off on the road? What kid hasen't heard someone start swearing when they broke their arm? Swearing is part of everyday life, and saying stuff like "I can deal with it, because I can use a filter and start banning people" is pretty immature.

I say that if a person, under the age of 12 or not, can't handle seeing the word "f*ck" on a computer screen when they probably hear it a hundred times a day at home, school, and with friends, then they are also too immature to play a fighting game.

Selvin

####, I switched sides. Put in the filter. If they put this Project on their Resumes who are we to tell them what to do. I want the best for people in life (Hard to believe) and if I interfer with their work life in any way I think it is wrong. Put in the filter, do what ever you feel like TMyApp.

I say that if a person, under the age of 12 or not, can't handle seeing the word "fuck" on a computer screen when they probably hear it a hundred times a day at home, school, and with friends, then they are also too immature to play a fighting game

and those 2 sentences sum up how bad this world is getting.

KKS..
we (the adults of this game) have a responsibility to ensure that ppl aren't being exposed to things they don't need to be exposed to.

Nantuko Joe..
just because someone shoots someone in the head everyday and a kid knows and hears about it doesn't mean we should expose them to it.
just because every few minutes a women is rapped and a kid knows and hears about it doesn't mean we should expose them to it.

you see the point?...there are LOTS of things kids are exposed to everyday which they shouldn't be.

and saying swearing is part of everyday life is spoken like a true and immature child.

by your logic a worker should be able to tell customers, "heres your fuc**ng order, now enjoy it you m**herf*cker...

THAT is NOT acceptable.

Not in real life and most definately not in here.

Not in real life and most definately not in here.

Get real. How the #### can you compare swearing to murder and rape? Swearing is something that kids ARE ALWAYS exposed to, (like I said, whether it be at home, school, work, or with friends). But how often, in REAL LIFE, is a kid exposed to seeing someone being shot in the head or seeing a woman get raped? I'm not talking about TV. Dont even make me bring TV into this conversation. I'm talking about the real world. Kids hear swearing ALL THE TIME in the real world. They DO NOT experience murder and rape ALL THE TIME in the real world, ON A DAILY, CURRENT BASIS.

And I'm not saying that it's okay for someone to say "Here's your f**king order, now enjoy it you mother f**ker." I'm saying that people are exposed to swearing every day. I am in no way telling people to swear. I'm saying that it's a part of everyday life, and people have to get used to it, and don't give me that $hit like "I can get used to it, I can put in a filter and start banning people." thing that TMyApp gave me because that's not getting used to it, that's merely trying to avoid it.

I wanted to read all that but theres really no point Joe.

when you get older you'll realize that kids should not be exposed to that...
you'll learn that setting a higher standard and sticking to it is the only way to go...
and most importantly you'll learn that taking the stance that "it happens, deal with it" is the worst thing one can do.

and for the life of me I can't fathom what kind of pathetic adult supervisionyou have if no one around you is driving home the point that swearing is wrong.

I really wish you would understand this simple fact.
parents control what they're kids do
parents will now allow they're children to be exposed to filth
if we don't ensure that, parents will not allow they're children to come here
if we can't show this is game for everybody, then we've failed badly

i dont' recall putting anything on a resume (or even having one for that matter ??)

in now way did i make the game to have a "cool looking" resume... but... in any case

Nantuko: i AM sick and tired of you using profanity in your posts to defend profanity !!! u r wasting MY time (since i have to edit the posts to add those stars)...

2nd... don't call me "immature"

i am VERY tired (since all I do is work)... the 4 player mode is running @least 2 weeks behind... so the issue of "profanity and how people feel about it" really doesn't concern me

this was NOT a "what do you all think of a filter being put in?" thread... there was no question mark of any kind in the original post...

so, i will say this one last time... if the pointless swearing continues, the filter will come on, and all who try to push me by
