[ why the game is down ] - Official discussion

well.. what can i say... we're down...

as i was updating to the new versin of the game (0.6b ... which would include a playable version of Onslaught) the hosting plan/company that we were using finally cut us off... (at 35,000+ hits per week, and over 210,000 users... i'm VERY surprised we went on this long)

currently, neither myself or lefty can handle these hits for the 7.5 meg file of the game (that is why we were using OTHER servers all this time to host the main shockwave file of) ... in addition, i simply cannot afford to dump even MORE money on maintainig this "100% free" project that brings in no cash what so ever...

not sure what else to add.. but.. until further notice (hours.. days... weeks .. months ??) we are down... for good...

Look, if he ever does that, it'll probably be because he can't stand to keep a memory of a very good project that was his own, and was never finished. Roll u are right The community is the most important part of XMvsSF Online.............But the Actual game is what brought us all together in the first place, Gave us memories, good times, Challenges, and more important friends. So by taking the game away it took Peice of everyone in the Forum because its what started it all. U dont get memories much by being in the forum.

What an insane amount of posts in such a short time...

Well, since I doubt TMyApp is going to spend the time looking through all these posts (or maybe he will.. who knows) I won't make much of a comment but this:

In December my thirst for playing vidio games against other intelligent life reached its peak. Having no/few freinds (who didn't play games), I searched the internet.. and quite quickly, found this game.

It being the ONLY free/good online fighting game, I quickly loved it. Although lag was a challenge at first.. it proved to be one of the most fun experiences I could have possibly imagined. Around the end of TOC III, I gave up in trying to "win" at tournaments (for the moment) and left until whenever tag mode came out (somewhere around April).

Although joining a clan seemed pretty fruitless, I gave it a shot, and it was "interesting" for a while.. but that died off. And then I saw this topic about Quass becoming a mod since he had "helped out" for such a long time. It was then I realized (or just started thinking about) how much TMyApp really did for everyone who plays this game, all for NOTHING what-so-ever.

So.. I decided to try my luck at "helping out." First with that whole Chun li Cat Fight disaster... Then with that "History of XvsSF", which was a hit (much more then I could have imagined). Even to the extent that Lordcyris contacted me about having a website for it... And that lead to the "Spoof Hist" and TIB.. Senshuk.. and many other "Projects" I've had over the months.

As much as I enjoyed fighting desparate battles against greats such as PROfe$$or, TarkanX, Nferno666, and fear_tetsuo, I think the deepest/best satisfaction came from those "accomplishments" that were loved/complimented by so many people...

And that's why TMyApp made this game.. and why I respect him so much for what he's done.

well the game just fell into coma. but what tmy did was create a legacy. i never lose faith in anything, especially the repair of my bike. i been here since september and for a long time i've worked hard to be the best here. like my banner says 'choose your own legacy'. i already did.

I first started this game somewhere around last November as Doomtrain. I didn't like it at first because the keyboard was hard for me to learn on. Eventually, I got better and better, and learned to appreciate the game even more. Later, I was accepted into one of the most well-known clans in XvsSF.

I dont know about anybody else, but this game really did help some of us. For me, it really helped because before i was never really into the fighting games. But now, since I have playing this wonderful, wonderful online game, I have went out and purchased a number of fighting games from capcom scaling all capcom games included(Mravel vs Capcom 1 and 2, streetfighter nc, and a ton of others). To make a long story short, i really wish that the game gets back up soon. if we have to pay then we have to pay. But it would always be kick ass to safe a little change. :D

well.. what can i say... we're down...

as i was updating to the new versin of the game (0.6b ... which would include a playable version of Onslaught) the hosting plan/company that we were using finally cut us off... (at 35,000+ hits per week, and over 210,000 users... i'm VERY surprised we went on this long)

currently, neither myself or lefty can handle these hits for the 7.5 meg file of the game (that is why we were using OTHER servers all this time to host the main shockwave file of) ... in addition, i simply cannot afford to dump even MORE money on maintainig this "100% free" project that brings in no cash what so ever...

not sure what else to add.. but.. until further notice (hours.. days... weeks .. months ??) we are down... for good...

that is all....

i've had quite a bit of time to think about all this... and the 1st thing that really came to my mind is all the crap that i had to take over the last year+ ...

let put bitching aside for a moment.... for all those who STILL remmemba the "old days"... i've started asking the users to help out with web hosting WAY BACK in October of 2k1... and i continued to ask for help (off and on) 8+ months after that... and u know what ?? no one replied... no one cared.... so... earlier this year... i just stoped asking...

it is the same thing that happend with the chat servers... people who wanted to help couldn't... and the rest just didn't/don't care...

well... this is the end result... i can try to only do so much ... but in the end... money makes the world go ground... so.. here we are...

... still... what pisses me off even more is the lack of support for the game community... i mean.. fine... we get those 35-40k hits each damn week... over 600 NEW USERS join each and every day.. and the chat servers are full pretty much around the clock no matter what... its great... the only problem is... thats not really support...

to me... this forum is the refelection of the community .. (it is the only place where everyone can reflect on everything they see and feel while playing the game)... and if u look @ the stats... we only have 6144 registered forum members.. and LESS THAN 100 of those post regularly.. thats <100 from over 210,000 registered members inside the actual game...

what does all that mean ?? well... people like the "quick fix" they get from the game.. they love to just drop by... play a few rounds.. and then leave (and pay nothing)... and u know what.. thats all fine... but even though they don't have to pay a dime ... they dont' even bother to taken a stinken minute to read the loading screen of the game... and/or read/post in a few threads on the forum... and those who DO these things... are mostly "bitching" about one thing or the other...

(it is interesting to see how this one thread got more replies than any other thread on the forum in just a few hours.. and yet, most of the posts are from people either bitching, or "giving up" on the game @ the very FIRST sign of problems... some loyalty eh ?? ) ...

anyway... thats just how i feel... here are some individual replies to the posts (in order they were read by me):

well, i just got the sad news, what can i say...
well i will always think positive, this game will never die since it got huge fans.As i can see this post has collected huge number of replies but few of them tried to help. Guys this is the right time to get together and get through this obstacle and help the man that gave us this wonder .
i have a suggestion since there are more than 200.000(few of them active) why dont we just donate only 1 dollar or even more per person ,it will not only help, but revive the game forever.(dont tell me that u dont have this godamn dollar :angryfire: ) For me i'll be very very happy and pleased to give as much money as i can afford , even pay a monthly fee to play the game.. that's all i can say i hope that u r enough ....., so let's make it happens , and trust me this game will not die, trust me...trust me... :)

There is no reason to give up yet, its not over until the fat lady sings... and I dont hear a fat lady singing... If you guys really like the game, you shouldnt have any problem helping Tmy out... You know he does all this work for us, and he gets nothing. I wouldnt even have the will to begin doing that, so if you've played the game 1 time, or 100 times you best be supporting him, because I doubt most of you could do this for this long, just to make people happy, no profit included. SO help him out, or get off the damned island, and if I see 1 more person complain or badmouth him, Im going to hunt you down.
