Newbie tournaments - Some kinda official announcement thingy

Aight... you kids are pushing your luck.

I'm issuing this announcement/bullitun to warn ya'll who are ###### tournament, after ###### tournament.. to STOP damit (or at least space my migrains out a little).

I left on Thursday to a place far, far away... and come back this afternoon to see... maybe 10 MORE godam ###### tournaments started.

How much time are you guys putting into these dam things anyways? 0.08 seconds??

Unless you're serious about hosting a tournament and are prepared to spend the kinda time it takes preparing/planning/hosting your tournament... don't bother making one.

Now, I'm not saying you're not allowed to host tournaments... just put a little TIME and EFFORT into them... Show me you're gonna at least try to make your tournament a "success" for more then 0.5 second.

Or else... one day you're all gonna wake up to find all your 20+ ###### tournaments locked. :biggrin:

one more thing:

plan properly. dont just say your holding a tornament in 2 or more months, there will be too many signed up people to manage and monitor.

think before you plan. dont just start a tornament. there has to be a type of tornament, like an all ryu or wolverine. and be creative. come up with a good prize that will attract attention, but dont say that the winner will get all characters unlocked.

unlike the fool who had sign up too short [bunmi, 2 hours to sign up], have sign up extended up to a week and a half. and its best to plan a tourney on friday or the weekend. and set a time zone if for a specific time.

do this right and you have a successful tornament.

Right here at the front page of the tournament section (http://nferno666.sytes.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.pl?act=SF;f=4). Then go back about 5 pages...

Notice that there's been somewhere around 20-30 tournaments started just in the months of October and September? And maybe 2 have even "finished".

Now I want you to Go here and skim over the topic titles from Aug. 2001 to Dec. 2002 (http://nferno666.sytes.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.pl?act=SF;f=4;st=510) Notice that there's less then 5 tournaments started in 5 months?

Now if you even take the time to open one or two of the threads, you'll notice the ones with the "large responses" (Ryu's Drunken Brawl (http://nferno666.sytes.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2690) and Tournament of Champions (http://nferno666.sytes.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2283)) were very WELL THOUGHT OUT, planned, and most importantly... avidly and efficiently run.

Now, out of all 30 or so tournaments that have been hosted since August 1, 2002.. there's been: 0 that have even come close to the kind of work/preparation that those did.

But in the case that someone actually does pull it off and put some actual effort into hosting a tournament.. I can, should... and probably will start locking tournament topics left and right that have .05 seconds of preparation and rules/tournament opperations that look like this:


This is my first time hosting a tourament.So i hope it is succesful.

1)1on1 no tag

2)Helpers on

3)Timer off

4)NO ONSLAUGHT

5)First and second round matches are 1 match.

6)Semi finals match are best out of 3.

5)Finals will be best out of 5.

7)Date and time will be detemined when i get all 16 fighters.
