Ds vs. psp - Whos gonna win

Hey my vote goes to ds. Its just so inovating it gives developers a chance to really get their hands dirty and create something wonderfull. Im also going to list the pros that i like about ds and why i do not like the psp.
Pro's of Ds :D :
Backwards compatibility with GBA, GBC, GB games

Touch screen (awesome...like a palm)

Voice recognition (can tell the character what to do ie:move forward)

WiFi can play with anyother ds owner in the range(30ft-100ft, up to 16 players can join a game with 1 carttridge) you can also connect to the internet if you have a wireless router or if you have a lan you can have unlimited numbers of people in a game.

Surpasses N64 graphics and can show stunning 3d graphics

The cartridges hold up to 1gigaBYTE of information. This may be about .8 less than the psp's umd disks this cartridges are called flash cards and are considerably less to manufacture(from what i hear)Also if you check eb games they already have games on sale. And specifically said "The ship date and retail price have not been confirmed and therefore are subject to change. If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price." So my guesss at least 15 dollars less

Has nintendos logo on it :p (just kidding but nintendo is the leader in handhelds)

Best of all the price is in the range of 150-200 dollars which is so much better than what the psp's range is 300-400 dollars( i dont have alot of cash, used it on a handycam)

Battery power, nintendo stated more than psp at least 10 hours i think

Now on to the psp...It uses a new media device called umd (universal media disk) this disk is smaller then a gamecubes but this is also gives your games chances to be lost or scratched...The games are also going to be a price tag of about 50 dollars.

The graphics may be stunning (close to ps2) but who wants to buy a 50 dollar game and play it on a small screen when you can play it on your big screen with surround sound(play it on your ps2)

Battery power a big issue for me..because my plane ride to my home country is 22 hours (2 flights) i live in illinois my home country is sri lanka south of india. The estimated amount of battery power is 6 hours gameplay 10 hours music and about 2.5 hours of movies :shocked: (how can you watch lotr, anyone remember gamegear?) Sony better fix this or it may lose this fight to the better handheld even if it has superior graphics.

Also most of the games for the psp are mostly going to port games from the psp. SO this may discourage you from playing it on your big screen...Unless you travel alot and dont get time from playing your ps2...

So at the end its up to. If you like more inovating new games that give gaming a new experience vot for the ds. but if you like your ps2 so much that you'd jump of a cliff to save it(i dunno) then vote for the psp...

Actually the psp is still under development and are dealing with issues with batter power. psp has graphics as good as ps2. It can play dvds ans mp3s, and can connect to ps2. The umd is better then the ds cartridge as it has a whole 1.8g of space, where u can store files on and access them via psp and computer. The only thing ds has is a good well known company with a good repuration behind it and the touch screen and voice recognition. The ds is complete, so you can expect more from psp. but i'm buying both, i personally think psp is slightly better, but nintendo has a very good rep for handhelds. Oh yeh wrong section mate.

sorry like i said i havent been in this forum for a long time...but sony even said that there going to put out there handheld around spring 2005. Also did u see that nothing is yet finalized in the ds? They got a new look

the reason i made this in the vip forum is because i wanted to know there opinion...i dont know who moved this topic but i specifically stated in my second post that i wanted to get a vip perspective on this...And battle axe, wtf i have a life, and the girlfriend ya i have one..i just made this topic to tell you people more about the ds and hear your comments. dont jump to conclusions either maybe i like video games but isnt sfo a video game too? :angryfire: If you thought that there is too many kinds of topics like this thats maybe because so many people are into this new handheld.

I never said they all were, i meant some were. Anyway there are few games that are going to be on ds that are not childish. And I just cant wait to play these.

wtf resident evil. Just to tell you the online thing on psp is almost the same as ds you have to be in range unless you have a wireless router...and alamgir you cannot put the umd disk into your computer...Have you ever heard of piracy???*cough Dreamcast cough* You would have to have a special umd player first and to make movies sony can only use their own movies that they produced. So they cant be putting disney or columbia etc...I know a heck of alot of stuff about computers and video games. AND YA DS DOES HAVE MP3 support(it may not be ds main features but it is capable), i didnt say anything about dvd support but that may come in the future. If you would like a new experience in gaming then get the ds. Plus not all nintendos games are childish...the new zelda, metroid prime...Also ds has all the capabilites of playing a psp game once it is converted but psp has no chance in playing ds's games. About the stylus...have u ever heard of extras... I think nintendo thought this out very thoroughly...Oh and the hookup to ps2 have u heard of gc to gba...So the ds will definetly have a feature like this. Its just common sense... Oh ya did u notice most of the handheld community is made up mostly of 5yr olds to 20 yr olds.. Thats why nintendo is number 1 in handhelds...

Actually the psp does not need a wireless router, and can connect directly without the need of a hub. SO get ur sources straight first. And they thinking of mp3 support? Give me a link to prove it. And ok i never knew about the umd not fitting into pc, but u can attach psp to pc via the usb ports. but still final fantasy advent children will come out on psp anyway. It still has most of the features of ds as well. but only time will tell no one knows the final features each console will have so no point talking about it now.

PSP hands down... dude wireless router sucks bad.. ifur inside your house is barely good.. i think blaze has a wireless and it goes offline some times...plus ds wouldnt have good game like need for speed.. it looks bad... and last time i heard (i think psp will have touchable screen) i think, i am not sure...and alamgir said not all game sucks on ds but still psp got way better games.

i think theyre going to somehow fix it to where if you have high speed interenet you wont have to pay(much), sonys clever like a fox you know, and the ds is going to suck, playing a fps on a touchscreen? :laugh: , imagine playing counter strike or anything that needs a quick reaction on that "oh crap someones shooting at me... give me a few seconds so i can slowly drag my finger across the screen five times until i can do something", the only thing bad about the psp is the battery life

Much better with buttons, but i'm sure that the ds would have fpss with buttons and stylus. The dual screens wont exactly give u 2 different angles in a fps. you'll only be able to stats or maybe a 2d birds eye view map. And shootsing games would so suck with a stylus anyway, your movements would be so much slower.

i read an article in egm, in which they played metroid prime on the ds and said it "sucked" because of the stylus

At my house i have highspeed and a router but not wireless all of my computers are on lan. And i dont think sony will give internet fees because airtime is costly and sony isnt that cheap. 300+ for a psp ya right

I never said nintendo was givin out free routers. What i said was that a router is not free. You buy it, whether for your ds or for wireless internet. but anyway nuff said we cant judge yet, let them both come out.

Yeh but you'll have to go there but it shouldnt be too much trouble and some ofupeople are thick. You go saying this sux and that sux. Have u even played the ds or psp? Me and rage are only comparing what we know of the upcoming consoles. And a stylus is rubbish to use on a fps, have u ever tried an fps with a stylus. You have to lift it up every time u want to change a target. And touch on screen buttons to move and stuff, it just sux.
