i have MACROMEDIA DIRECTOR 8.5 and i have been revamping my web site with flash animations and menus, but seems to just can add an URL to a SPRITE, but can i make it so the link load the web page in a targetted WEB FRAME ?

i have started in all this and i think director makes it so easy to learn flash programming... but...

you see here is my web page design !

go there and see for yourselves !
http://xmvssf.topcities.com

now...
frame 1 is the top banner which is actually a flash animation...
frame 2 is where i putted my flash menu... (complete left)
now frame 3 is where my main pages will show...

how can i target a specific frame that will display the page when you clicked in the flash menu ?

i have a book about DIRECTOR 6 but i rather love when someone explain it to me !
anyway... its just a simple qwuestion and i guess that almost no one here knows that !
if you have the time TMYAPP i know you can answer this !

that is NOT flash, that is shockwave. only a few computers support shockwave and alot of computers support flash. shockwave's capabilities aren't comparable with flash. flash is better.

director 8 only allows you to create shockwave files, while flash is created using flash MX or any version of the flash software.

not true not true. You can make supperior games on shockwave that you couldnt do on flash. For example: This game.
Flash is more of a graphics based program while director is more for making games and stuff.

okay fine you got me there, but shockwave's uses aren't that good. why program games in shockwave when you can use c++ or something? yes it's true that shockwave is good for online play, but that's still very limited. just get a game like CS and play online.

vegetam... if tmyapp didn't use shockwave to make this game... would you be playing it ?
i guess no... well sure REAL games are good to play with... but it is always good to play good old games over the net because it is good to see those programmers getting their jobs that way !

it always start like that on a CV then it goes higher and higher !

as for FLASH and SHOCKWAVE
there both two separate programming, but they both are for the very same purpose and like any other programming languages ! they can mix-up to make a very good program ! at least thats what macromedia said !

i mean... they say that if you got DIRECTOR to do the animations, you can aleways use FLASH MX to complement that same interaction movie with things you couldn't do with DIRECTOR !

which means, one works alone but is always better to use both at the same time !

shockwave work well with flash? well.... in some cases, but most of the times you don't see them being used together. shockwave is primarily used for games, while flash is mostly used for layout. it doesn't usually mix, cause it requires the user to have both a shockwave and a flash plugin. most ppl have a flash plugin. and shockwave files are generally bigger than flash ones.

Shockwave is v. good for online games, bar one thing. If I catch you using the built-in 3D thing, I'll personally hunt you down & savagely murder you. :angryfire:

Seroiusly, the built in 3d is the worst I've ever seen. If you want 3d, go use 3dGroove + Shockwave, or Java, or Wildtangent. Anything but raw Shockwave.

:hmmm:

or something much more better, such as maya or 3D studio max

vegetam... THEY ARE going together, as much as you can mix-up ASM and C++ to do a great program you can MIX FLASH and SHOCKWAVE to do a very good program !

like you said... SHOCKWAVE is good for movies and FLASH is good for LAYOUT so why not mix both of them to do a pretty good web site ?

anyway... i was telling what MACROMEDIA (those who first created shockwave) tells about FLASH MX and DIRECTOR !
anyway... thanks for answering things like that in my topic but i would have rather have a REAL ANSWER to the very first question as this wasn't suppose to be a DEBATE !

i just wanted to make the point clear that you used shockwave, not flash on your site. then montalvo started the debate :(
