Cant connect to internet - Need... help!

hmmm... so .. my computer stop connecting to the internet one month ago. I have AOL and my computer was new (bought in 2002) ... one day it stopped working.. I connected the phone line to my OLD computer (98) and I could connect to the internet.. I took the new computer to compUSA and they took a look at it.. they said the modem could dial out.. and there was a problem with aol, contact aol..

problem: modem attempts to dial to aol, after three tries it always worked.. i could read email, aolchat, and use aol features.. but i cannot go to webpages, view buddylist/chat, use msn messenger, aim, download, etc.

I told my neighbor about it, and he was gonna try to connect me to a network that he uses.. it dialed.. but same problem.. can't do anything except 'stay online'

... i bought a new modem.. STILL the computer cant connect to the internet!! i used the modem on this computer and it worked! WTF!! ....

ok.. so the only solution now is switch ISP ..

hmm anyone heard of this problem or have a solution b4 i do it?

yes i had the exact same problem.
Why do you think i was out for the time of june to late sept.
well anyway...i had to resove the problem myself since aol is a bitch.
What i did is i reinstalled windows. make sure you back up yo ####.
It seem some files were missing or corrupt.
It may or may not work for you. That why you should back up all of your files :)
although you might want to leave this as a last choice

hmm well i reformatted my computer before the problem.. hmm i dont have much filez heh.. so hmm reinstall windows? would it work if i reformat ? hmm.. well thx for the advice.. i might try it sometimes :)

maybe the aol thing has some type of bug/virus/glitch?
