Actually, I don't think that there's any relation. But, Sub did start training Frost.

I can't remember who Ice is. Which MK was he on? *checks Fighters Generation*

EDIT: Oh wait, on one of the movies, wasn't he Sub's brother? 'Cause Sub was a bad guy and Ice was a good guy ... right? *shrugs*
I really don't remember much from the movies, so I could be mistaken.
