Schooling in america?.. - Should children or parents decide?

Today I was thinking wouldnt schooling be 100% more effective, if children ages 12 and up got to decide what kind of school they wanted to attend? Instead of having a kid say whos interested in becoming an artist, or a mechanic having to learn mutiple courses of math, science, and enlish grammar? Its really stupid and I think darkage kind of way of teaching. That the jobs that people NEED specialization in dont cover a extense study on math, science, or english grammar. Hopefully when we can get someone other than bush in office, who doesnt have any GOOD ideas on learning ect.. then American children can benefit.
Its really a disappointment that kids of today have to wait untill they are in Highschool to pick subjects they want to take, and even then are FORCED to learn material that holds no real value to their career choices.. Im talking about in public schools where parents cant afford to send their kids to some specialized schooling system. Now Im not a political leader or nothing, but things do need to change. I've recently seen some schools in the USA actually planning to have specialized schools for different jobs which is a huge step on down the line.Though I think it will be a matter of what the parent say goes. However as this topic reads who do you think should decide? The parent of the child?
Also what are your opinions about this matter, and do you wish you could of had a choice of what kind of school you wanted to attend when you were growing up?

The parent.

Kid's arn't adults until 18, and they don't have the right to make dicisions effecting their lives untill 18.

The only way we can make our schooling better is if adults bust into children that school is important.

I come from a poopty area with a bad school program. And i can tell you that the reason there are so many drop outs in my area is that kids arn't trying because parents arn't encouraging. And since kids arn't trying, schools are losing money and teachers arn't teaching.

We need total reform for a better education. Starting with parents, ending with children.

Yah I see what you mean. Some kids dont want to learn and think school is unimportant. Im more aiming at the kids who DO want to learn, who DO know that school is important. These I think should be able to pick the school they wish to atend to suit thier career needs. Ofcourse the kids who dont know that school is unimportant will take this idea and abruise it. Heres an idea kids who make great grades up until they are 12 years of age. Sincing they take school seriously at a early age will be able to choose their school type aimed at their career, and students of fail at the normal classes up untill 12 have to repeat the instruction and then able to decide which school they take. This would work out to benefit both sides kids who dont care about school having to repeat these elemtuary grades instead of advancing to even harder material and dropping out. Though the parents arent really to blame in most cases. I know this first hand. My parents could care less rather I did goood in school or not. It was up to ME to decide rather I would succeed or fail.
Though things would of been much eaiser if I had got to choose my school which I could escalate my carreer. but obviously the current school plan isnt helping anyone the kids who want to learn and or the kids who dont.

the thing is that kids can become more succesful if they can decide but theres even more risk of failure with that idea. just like weight training you have to progress gradually. its no good being 12 years old and going to a school for mechanics and you dont understand 3/4 of the words they say to you = inevetable failure. id say let the parents have it they apparently knowbest so theres nothing u can do bout it.

These I think should be able to pick the school they wish to atend to suit thier career needs
most secondary schools in the Uk allow the pupil studying there to choose the subjects they wanna take and study for their end of year exams after that most of the pupils go and meet a carrers advsior and they are usually guided on what subjects they should take to be able to have the right qualifications for the desired career, but then it all goes back down to the fact if you want to learn then you can teachers will teach where as if you don't the teachers really won't bother

i think they teach u those subjects because when u are like 12 and stuff, u r still deciding wat u want to be wen u r older, u take all subjects, find wat u interested in, then make your choices...but that is kinda true..why do i have to take Drama, im not gonna become an actor/ess :confused:

Kids in america are lazy indegenerit poops.

Adults force us to go to school because if not, we'll be on the street hanging out and selling drugs or something.

Kids now days do NOT have the right influence, and adults don't beat it into us what's important and what's not, we'll never lift ourself from oppresssion and poverty.

I'm ofcourse speeking for the poor people.

Rich people don't have to worry about what to do after highschool, or even during highschool. They're rich, wtf do they have to worry.

We do. If not for the tremendous rate of high school drop outs, east LA would be a much, much better place.


The only thing we need now is MORE DROP OUTS.
