GAH!!! Makes me want to rip my hair out when I see this. Some may know that this sometimes happens when your Ps2 refuses to play blue disk, and even psx. I remember it was working fine I was playing Tekken tag ( a blue disk game) now it wont work, I was going to finsh this Final Fantasy IIV game some one let me see. Then I see the DRE come up, plus ive been hearing this nasty Grinding noise that makes me go like. .
These is really making me mad, ive serched around the Internet. I heard u can send it back to sony and they will repair it for free but my warrent went out I think. So I dont feel like paying $75.00 just to fix this problem. Ive also seen the do it ur self by taking ur ps2 apart and cleaning it and cleaning the Laser. But it says there is a 95% chance it shall work.
Even though I do take apart computers apart clean them and fix them then put them back together. This little black box has a lot more things in it then some PC. So I do see why they charge $200.00, I really dont feel like going threw all those long steps just to get to the laser which is VERY WELL covered.
Last option was I heard of this "Laser lens cleaner" A simple cd that looks like a PS2 disk but has tiny brushes on it so it could clean the laser. Which is very cheap price raging from $6 to $14, that can be bought in stores.
Well I need help im note sure what to do, but have any of yall been threw this and fixed ur Ps2?? ???

It might be a laser problem...but like Bob said you should get the cleaner first and try and clean ur cds with alcohol. Because it might be a dust problem but if it doesn't work it's probably because a lot of ppl who bought the first ps2 have lots of problems with them via the laser.

know what you mean Master... my dreamcast been grinding too lately !
not that much but sometimes even an original disk is harder to read !
oh well... sorry to disappoint, but disk cleaner barely ever works. seriously the best way to do it is to open the console throw some pressurized AIR into it to clean everything up faster then you think... no need to go up to the lens, believe me, it takes a lot for a lens like those to get dusty... unless like me you stay in a basement where the only thing can be found is cement dust which covers everything !
in all cases, i doubt your lens to be the problem.
as for the grinding noise... well mine comes from the covert. when i play it open it stops doing it, so i guess its not dust who makes it. but i don't know for you or if you even checked it.. check from where the grinding noise comes from and see how that could be fixed ! but i suggest that you first throw some AIR in there... it may just be your problem !
PRESSURIZED AIR CAN = 10$
so its not much and it will last for about 6 months if you use it once 2 weeks !
it really is worth it !
good luck my friend !

Take your ps2 game put it n the player when the disk error comes up turn the ps2 off. Turn the ps2 upside down, turn it back on and it should work.

I've eheard of this problem before. Basically after about the first 1 or 2 years if the release of the ps2, some of the the console's been having problems. Luckily i bought my ps2 in the first as soon as it came out. What you should do is email sony, they might ask u to send ur ps2 ifur lucky, cos that was the case with my gba sp. Other then that ur only hope is to buy another one from a different shop and return the old one with the new one's box and receipt, but thats illegal lol.
