I don't really know.. it's a pretty slim chance that it actually works... but the whole old connection mode and firewall thing is one portion of the game that's actually tricky.

Try setting the options this way or wait for Logan Snake76 to link ya

http://maximumspider.com/options.JPG

Pulling down the whole firewall is an option as well.. but not adviseable at all O_O

Either that, or you're faced with the curse of joining games for life... um.. or just in a short time

ok before i go anywhere near how to deactivate a firewall !
i must warn those who will try of what could be the consequences of doing it int he first place !

You all know how a trojan works, its a program that looks and connects to open ports and then gives control of the machine to the user who connected thru that port. a firewall blocks all acess to all ports thus allowing only those you acknoledged to enter your ports ! count ports as DOORS if you want, all a hacker needs is one that is openned even a little bit to actually gain control of your machine.

this said, you all notice that without a firewall you become even more vulnerable to hackers of that type of control !

proceed to reading the next section only if you really really don't care about being hacked or if you truly know how it works, if not i suggest not trying it out yourself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

First : you gotta know if your firewall is software or hardware ! the difference is this one, a software is a program while a hardware is an object. a real live machine. many will say there is no hardware that does the firewall, but i truly counts ROUTER as HARDWARE as they do it's included in their original programming.

Second :, if its a software, you gotta pinpoint which one is it. there are a few programs that are firewalls in themselves... examples are NORTON INTERNET SECURITY, NORTON ANTI-VIRUS and a few others not really known up to now... if you got those installed then i am sorry but there is next to no way to actually disable them, unless you find the firewall options which probably enable you to disable the firewall itself !

Third : now that you know who is doing what, you gotta find if there are options availklable to you so you can change them to your likings. some programs doesn't allow that, example of norton internet security who is barely configurable !

going into the routers, i suggest you to be aware that playing around with a router may get your internet out of control. it may even cause you to lose your internet connection. if you are aware of that and think you can go on without any problems then continu reading !

ROUTERS : find your guide you got with the router. you gotta find the router's IP adress. once you got it, you gotta open up an internet explorer session and type int he router's IP adress int he adress bar. the adress of the router is usually 192.168.0.1. once you typed the adress and pressed the enter key, you should now get into the router's internet web page for configuration.

FIRST : enter your admin login and password if there are any ! normally its ADMIN as the login and 1234 as the default password. but it varies from router to router. again check in your manual it should be mentionned !

SECOND : once in the menu you should see a FIREWALL TAB which is what we need to configure.

THIRD : in the FIREWALL TAB you should see a list of all the port the router let go and even a list of web sites it never allow to be seen. look around there should also be a list of options included. one may also be the option to deactivate the firewall !

FOURTH : deactivating the firewall might have gotten you to host or join any games now. yet it doesn't necessarely suceed int hat goal. a router can never really puts on hold, it walways has its firewall up and running except that the deactivation option puts in in the lowest settings it can get, that means never ask and let pass almost everything it sees !

be aware that playing around like that should be taken heavily for a hard task and not for something to be done on a headshot. don't do this if you don't know anything or don't understand a single thing i mentionned up to now !

hope this helped ya understand a bit more how its done !
good luck to all who will try !

finally a true solution

but why would a router's firewall prevent you from hosting...i meen the prot is open isnt it?...would it just let someone join?

A router is a firewall that blocks every other port...
by others i mean other then 21 or 80 which are defaults for internet and FTPs !
thing is a firewall scans all the packages, if one doesn't have the right data, as in HTML or anything in the likes it just deletes it, thus the data's needed to sync while joining of hosting is simply wasted resulting on a sync error which gives you the unable to connect message !

thus the best solution is to simply shut down the firewall so you can make sure no data will be lost during the sync !
hope this cleared a few details !

even if you have a router, u'll be fine and will be able to host if ya got norton firewall...
open that *ahem* door .. and you can host
