As sone of you know im having computer troubles at home (im at my libary). When i try to load windows I get a blue screen saying that theres a bad installtion and i need to disable caching and shadowing or remove the installtioin that i recently installed. but the thing is that I didnt install anything recently. It then tells me that to disable caching and shadowing I need to access the advance options. When I check the advanced options theres nothing that says shadowing or caching...I would of just lived with the problem but I cant access my account on windows and therefore I cant open up any programs, go on the internet or anything else. I dont think this is a virus becuase I scanned my computer 2 days before this started to occur and Norton Anitvirus didnt find anything wrong.

Any1 has this problem and knows how to deal with it?

Ah I thought you had WinXp or Win2000 because these error messages dont show for another Os. First off I need to know do you get the messages AFTER you try to open a program? If so which programs can you open. By the way have you installed any new HARDWARE such as a new mouse, keyboard, scanner, printer ram, harddrive ect...? Because these error messages are usely caused by new hardware installations.

Try reseting your computer, and try getting the service pack if you want to keep your files. The same thing happened on my pc and laptop.

sounds like some of your system 32 kernel files are screwed up........reinstall windows xp, and if you dont have the 1st service pack for it, then get it.

btw does anyone know when service pack 2 is coming out?

Ive tryed reinstalling windows but it still didnt work. Ive called dell techinal support and they tried to help me but they say that my hardrive is screwed up and i need to get a new one. My moms friend is suppose to come over and look at it to see if he can fix it and if not we might get a new hardrive..or just a better computer. but that can take weeks..or months....

Um yah that is the last resort if your harddrive is so SCREWED UP its unrepairable. Though you HAD to do something for this to happen. If I knew what you did then maybe I could help. By the way you can find CHEAP harddrives at www.newegg.com thats where I buy ALL my computer hardware. Also I dont reccomend buying computers buILD YOUR OWN for 2x cheaper. Though I also dont reccomend "n00bs" trying to build one either. :laughlong:

did anyone actually told you what shadowing and caching were ?

if not then i will tell you !
its a function of the motherboard that is activated only in the software of the motherboard ! usually activating these abilites can screw up your computer as most of the OSes doesn't allow it to be enabled.

if one person pressed the DEL key on your keyboard while the computer was starting up, they might have gone into the software of the board and activated the abilities without noticing it. (its easy)

so if yur friend knows a little how the bios is setup, you might want to speak about the shadowing abilities in it. he might be able to show you the advance tab you searched for int he start !

sorry if i cannot be more specific, but in this case i doubt your hard drive to be screwed, i mostly think the techicians up to now didn't knew what shadowing was so they simply let it go and teold you to buy another hd so they can make money !

but fact is, if its the shadow thing i think of, changing hard drive won't do you any good !

hope this helped and i hope you will find a solution to your problem...

That is another possibility WinXp has alot of glitches in it anyways. Well me and my friend COULD figure this out before you buy a new harddrive. Though if you dont know how to go into the Bios or take out hardware to experiment see whats wrong. Then we cant help you out. By the way my friend a guru on computers. He makes 70-80k a year because of it. I'll get him to post here. This guy laughs at people who buy new harddrives. Could have a whole team of "Top-Experts" posting here if you want Like I said though if you're not able to work in the bios or take out hardware ect... its useless

SSkkarma ill be sure to mention that to my firned when he comes over...and if the delete key activated it can it also disable it too?

Zpower go ahead and make people u know post here...the more help the better for me. Maybe one of them can help me disable caching and shadowing.

usually activating these abilites can screw up your computer as most of the OSes doesn't allow it to be enabled.

And if this can screw up ur computer how comes companes put it on the pc????

because it is of some uses by certain oses !

and of course usually people aren't suppose to go there if they don't know how it works and what it does !

in the past it was used, by today's standard it barely ever used anymore !

Its good 2 be back. My computer has been re formatted now, thanks to you all and dell technians (had a feeling the 1st person i talked to didnt know what he was talking about on dell support hotline). Im installing all of my old programs like wordperfect, norton anitvirus as we speak. I should have everything up and running nomraly in about 2-3 days. I still will have to download all 21 dell updates that i had to recently download before my computer went down though. This could take a while. :( but should be done soon.

Btw, ive found another problem with my computer. My speakers dosnet work. Im not hearing anything from them. Does any1 know how to fix this?

Ofcourse thier not working after reformating you have to d/l EVERY SINGLE DRIVER that you had before. The problem is that you reformated BEFORE BACKING UP YOUR DRIVERS. Right click on my computer and go to device manager. Ok now if you see any yellow exclamation marks. Its because the hardware cannot work because you dont have the drivers to run it. Find out what kind of sound card you have. Then go to the company's website to d/l drivers for it. It depends on your motherboard. If your motherboard came with an integrated sound card. That means you'll have to find out what kind of motherboard you got and what type of model it is. Then go to the mother board's company website and d/l thier drivers for the exact same model you have. If not then all you have to do is find out what kind of sound card you have. Then go from there.
