View Full Version : Fantastic four - movie - Reviewby yours truly !

it started yesterday when my parents asked me if i wanted to see the movie with them at the theater !

as i am a big fan of marve| i decided to see what it could be like to be the fantastic four. by the trailers i wasn't so much enjoying their traduction in french it seemed like the charcaters were gay or something. anyway from what everybody were telling me that moview would suck balls and wouldn,t be such a sucess... i can truly tell them now... they were wrong !

let's start with the characters themselves...
MR FANTASTIC : just like he is int he books, cannot take a decision lightly and always is rationnal unless it is about his girl. and even there he never really gives in to his emotions. he's good with his friends and would gladly give his life for them.

THE THING : truly the actor had his way and knew exactly where to go with that character. he was mad, mad at people, just like the real thing. he acted it truly well. the chacter isn't bad yet he rages against the people rages against his own cursed appearance. fro those who love THE THING they will truly be in love with this one.

INVISIBLE WOMEN : Truly great, played by that girl from DARK ANGEL series, she truly knew how to act her as well... thought i thnk the original character wasn't like that at all, i thnk it wasn't all that bad. she was greatly emotionnal and it goes well with the character itself and she was far from capable of doing all her stuff without anything hapenning all the times... she used her powers but almost always feels tired after it ! in any case she seemed like the weakest link of all the FANTASTIC FOUR. yet she's the one who kept an eye on the road all the times.

HUMAN TORCH : man, if ya wanna see the movie then this character is truly the reason to see the movie. just like the real human torch in the books, always thinking things happens for a reason, unlike the others he from the starts thought having powers were cool and that if that accident in space had given em them, then there was a reason for it. never has disliked his powers. always making fun of the others (his friends) yet he always repected them. truly that kid was the the biggest attraction of the movie.

DR VICTOR VON DOOM : even thought the translation from eglish changed his name from DOOM to FATALIST. people will see vicotr has they always wanted him to be. unfortunetly the story takes quite a while before you see him in armor and all. it actually happen at the complete end and it doesn't stay like that very long. yet it prooved to be the best dr doom i ever seen. even 4 against him, he still is capable of fighting them off all together !

ok next stop is the story itself...
kinda stupid at first, once in space it doesn't gets better. its when they get there powers that starts to get interesting. seeing them deals with it is very cool and the way it happens is funny. what i like the most is that unlike the other super heroes. the fantastic four doesn't hide, they used their powers in public.

the story isn't that bad once it has started but i think it could have been pretty much better then that. yet is still a good story.

onto the special effects now...
well what can i say...the human torch is well made... mr fantastic is trully greatly made, those who seen elasto girl in the incredibles will see the same kind of deal here and even thought it is made by computer you'll see that it is greatly made. the only thing that wasn't made that greatly was THE THING... he is made out of rock yet you can easily see that it isn't rock that covers his body and you easily see that it is nothing more then a costume.

conclusion... the movie is great, way better then what the trailers have shown up to now. for those telling me the movie sucked, i say... go see it first, you'll see that some movies made by marve| sucked way greater then that one.

the effects have stopped the flow at one point, but it is still good to see the characters live ont he screen and greatly acted by actors who truly captured the essence of the books !

if i had the cash, i would go see it again in theater !

hope you enjoyed this review as much as i did writing it.
see you next marve| movies guys !

Very disappointed by the movie.

SPOILER!!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!

How dumb was it when Thing got his powers removed after Reed created the simulation to reverse the effects but then Thing went back into it and got his powers back!? You would expect the powers they were given in space to be a phenomena glitch that was one out of a trillion but Reed recreated it which means that device in his home can give anyone unique individual super powers... That just made the Fantastic Four seem.. so un-Fantastic and anybody could acquire them if given the oppurtunity to step in.

That whole thing just took everything special from them. The Thing was perfectly human again, got bitched by Doom, and then decided he needed back in the loop and so he got his powers back. WEAK. I guess now, with that girlfriend he has at the end, he'll be stepping into that device so he can make love to her and then he step in it again to be the Thing and answer the call of duty... but having that device lingering around is only gonna hurt them... Oh look at me, I busting out potentential sequal material here.

And the finale... so cheesy. So simplistic... utterly dull. Doom got abused. The poorly casted actors were a bore. And Doom, when he spoke through that mask it sounded like he was in a recording studio. There was no muffling of his voice through that mask (like there should be). They could've altered the voice a bit through the mask because the actor himself does not have a menacing voice. Doom's voice wasn't more intimidating than Strawberry Shortcake's. When you see Doom in the mask and hear him speak you'll feel like something is a miss.

Anyway, I'm done ranting. Hopefully no one else will waste their money on this garbage and just be patient until this comes on TV in almost 2 years (not even worth renting).

You still go with your parents to the movies?
 ....... VF Im astonished that you do not see that going to the movies with your parents is a great idea. I mean there are two good reasons why you should go to the movies with your parents. One reason being is that they can pay for the entire trip... Another reason being you and your family can share a great moment in time together witch to keep in your memories after you or they pass away. Though all these reasons are good... There are some down-sides to this and well since this forum is meant for all ages I'll keep it at that ... :D

Very true, Zpower. He probably doesn't see parents as being cool to go to the theaters with because his parents aren't cool. It's a shame, really.

Unfortunately for me, I did see this "movie" even though I said I wouldnt. However, it was beneficial that I did not pay to see it, but rather watched a downloaded version my friend had, mainly because I would have wasted my money.

This film is far from fantastic in every aspect. Naturally it's the first 'Fantastic 4' film, and hopefully the last. Being it's the first they explain everything about how they get their powers, and what their powers can do..pretty much for the entire film. Now call me old-fashioned, but it would seem like if your entire existence changed, and you now had a superpower, such as you could "burn at supernova temperatures" or you were a rip-off of stretch armstrong, then you would probably become excited and be amazed by your powers as well as be curious and full of mystery. Well, that would probably happen in any other film except this one, because these people dont seem to care that they're completely different, its as if its no big deal to them. It's like "Oh, would ya look at that, I can now turn invisible, Hmm, nifty. Whatever, what's on Dr. Phil"

So unless your a hardcore fanboy like Karma who confuses himself so much that he is capable of seeing a good film through the tunnels of crap, then avoid this movie.
If your looking for a superhero film, go watch Batman Begins, at least it tells a logical story and ties everything together at the end.

56 million dollars; first weekend. Goes to show you... doesn't matter howbad movies get criticized... it's the number of people that "see" the movies that actually matters.

well not really, they did show a bit of awe with their fantastic changes but yeah, its too weak, not enough
they shouldve shown more astonishments, confuse and trouble
with what happened to their bodies

what disappoints me is von doom
hes motivation to be a badass antagonist isnt enough
writers gave him poor plot/background motivation
id say, hes not even close to whats in the comic book

if my recollection is correct, hes just an ordinary, horribly disfigured and wearing a thermonuclear-powered suit of armor that renders him powerful but not THAT tin man whose body transformed to some sort of alloy...id say, the dr. doom character is WEAK, poor background

but i do love how they utilized their powers right at the ending
but still...i almost said..."thats it?

one last thing...how the heck the human torch know hes after by that heat-seeking missile? i mean with that kinda distance?
hes not even sure of that missile type even if he guessed its a missle....

but i agree with you with the batman movie

There is actually a Fantastic Four film that came out before this one. It's kind've like the original Punisher with Dolph Laundgren.

And hey, Virch, It's unfortunate you think your parents can't handle PG 13 sexual themes. I wonder how you came about... magic? :music:

[color=#FF0000]Ok what i dislike th emost around here are the ones saying movies sucks badly because they simply dislikes other things... i mean of all the marve| movies all that can be said by a few of you is that they all suck badly ! this goes to prooves you that there are some pretty stupid people wondering about the planet !

DR DOOM does have powers... the charcater himself isn't weak as you might think, he is actually disgifured due to his mutation which unlike the others isn't controlled. his armor which he uses was created in this sole purpose of helping him control it. the armor doesn't give him strenght, nor does it gives him the ability to be hit with a hammer weithout feeling anything ! it is his own powers that enables that. but i agree that alloy thing was just plain stupid, otherwise the characterer even thought not perfect. is pretty well made and acted ! its just the story who didn't give too much about him !

also to marve|911... you think they just used their powers like that without even bothering to try and know why ? well i think you missed half the movie cause about half the movie was about that !

the thing was oftenly offered to have his mutation solved like they did in the movie ! maybe you aren't a good fan of marve| to know that in the marve| universe, powers aren't magical at all. they are due to thewir dna having changed and since its hapenning in a semi-futuristic environment they have the powers and technology to actually do what they did in the movie, and btw int he marve| universe, mr fantastic isn't the only really really really intelligent people. there are quite a few including spiderman. and all of them have solved their own problems with their mutations due to their intelligence on the matter ! so the machine thing was pretty darn a good idea in itself !

just so you know... many super heroes including batman, superman and mainly all super heroes existing, they all got a way to get rid of their powers... but the fact is, would they really want that to happen ? and you if you had any powers would you really want them to go away ? the answer will probably be no just like in any movies !

VF, its not because i am 24 years old that i cannot take care of my parents !
it had been quite a while since they last got to theaters and when they heard about their favorite super heores of their chldhood they couldn'T resist the urge to go and see it ont he big screen which they did, but my parents aren't without a heart, they asked me if i wanted to go with them, they didn't paid for me thought, i am old enough for that ! so unless you hate your parents to a point where you simply doesn't want anything to do with them... then i am sorry, but for me my parents are what made me what i am now and i am glad they did what they did for me during my childhood, so passing some time with them while i still can is something i like to do ! its as simple as that !

anyway... i agree the movie needed more fight scenes... still i think THE HULK movie was way stupidier then this one. for the missile thig on johnny... well he saw a missile coming for the tower... forget it guys... we all know a missile is either tele-guided by some remote control which necessite some kind of laboratory and big computers, which the buildings around them didn't have for sure. or the missile is heat-seeking which was coincidently about a guy who could burn himself up to the sunlike temperature. so guess what was his guess on the matter ! also there is the fact that they had just learned that DR DOOM wanted them dead.... it was evident... the missile was destined for him !

anyway the movie isn't that great, i mean it is a pretty good movie just like spiderman and

but still howd he know that missile was after him?
what if that missile was aimed for the entire building?
and wtf? to think he even left his sister?
how could he have guessed that missile was ONLY after him?
how the f** he know its a heat-seeking missile?
dont get me wrong, i also enjoyed the movie but you cant deny that there were some flaws on the film
another example again is when that missile was chasing the human torch, he saw that floating cargo vessel
to divert the missile, he scorched that vessel!
what if there are personnels there?
you think of that?

... and if you ask me, it was still better then the punisher which was pretty much dumber then the dolph lungren movie!

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHH!
you want war?!!!!!

btw, doom is horribly disfigured aight, but not from the cosmic exposure

COMIC BOOK 101: during the college years of reed richards and victor von doom, doom held a terrible grudge against reed, envious for their competing intellects

reed warned him about the nature of his experiments and its implications but von doom was too proud to listen and wants to surpass reed's innate intellect that one day, he accidentaly injured himself in a chemical lab explosion during one of his experiments
(although, reed tried to reason and save him) but instead, he blamed reed for his misfortune for his horribly disfigured face which was beyond medical help

now, doning a nuclear powered suit of armor, this monarch of latveria, relentlessly launched countless attacks gunning to destroy the fantastic four (just a summary)

and btw also, alicia masters isnt a black american

MWAHAHAHA, eat that

for that cargo thing... nope there is never anyone on such a thing, because its only garbage, only the boat who transport that has people on it ! but i had rather liked hi to go back down in th ewater instead of heating the place up !

the movie would b way mroe bttr if they fight mroe villians and like lose battles a couple times cuase all they showed was how they got thier powers for liek half the movie and hwo they got control of it and the guy was dating the girl and the th9ing was getting hated on cuase he was brolic roflmao. well anyway needed way more action
