once again with my ####ie questions ??? is there a practice mode

Yes, there is a practice mode. You have to go to STORY MODE first though.. When you get there, press 1 (which is the default taunt button). When you press 1, it gives you a chance to practice. The Artificial Intelligence will shut down, and you get to do how many supers you want..ect..ect..

Remember it only lasts 1 match so don't expect the AI in the other rounds to halt at the push of the start button.
